Villa Amalie & Villa Curiel

Everything was absolutely perfect, we loved the location, the breakfast, the staff and pretty much all. I would definitely recommend staying here, such a lovely place.

Service Food Location

Excellent hosts, very responsive. Had my own private parking in gated area directly in front of villa. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen. Felt very safe. Easy to walk to town for local restaurants and shops. Excellent breakfast. Fully automatic coffee/ espresso machine in villa.

Minor road noise at times as there's a busy road on one side of the compound the villa is in but I'm a light sleeper and slept fine.

We liked the possibility of parking near the door, the large kitchen, and the big comfortable bed. We got a remote controll from the parking as soon as it was ready. The host was also friendly, spoke fluently english and tried to solve the problems from the first day, including giving a small pair of scissors.

The biggest problems were the cockroaches, noise, poor breakfast, poorly working AC, and the growing humidity from the walls, which caused an unpleasant smell. The property Curiel is located in a central but a dirty part of downtown, near a road where we counted around 9–10 abandoned houses in the nearby streets. During our stay, right in front of our bungalow, there was construction and metal work taking place almost every day at our Villa Curiel, which created noise from early in the morning. Cleaning was once in 3 days and after one of them our beach towels dissapeared and never came back again. There are no real glass windows, only wooden jalousies, which make the property noisier and the AC less efficient. The AC remote didn’t work, and even after it was changed, we still had problems turning it on. Many times per day it switched off automatically. We had to call the owner, and he could turn it on online, but that’s not what you expect when on the Caribbean. Also, we were obliged to turn off the AC whenever we left the property, otherwise, according to the rules, we would have to pay an extra fee. The only place with a good temperature was the bedroom, but the AC was directed almost straight at the bed, so there was always an unpleasant wind blowing even in sleep mode. Back to the cockroaches – they were huge, around 3–4 centimeters long. Even though the owner said he had used poison, the cockroaches appeared every night. The explanation was that "cockroaches are everywhere on Curaçao," but it was still a shocking experience. The breakfast was also very poor. It included a few pieces of toast, a few slices of ham and cheese, one glass of orange juice, scrambled eggs, an apple, yogurt, a few types of marmalade, and unlimited tea and coffee. When I asked about gluten-free bread, the owner told me I had to buy it myself. So, out of 8 days, we only went to breakfast on the first day and never returned.
