HOSTEL PAQ tokushima

This was an exceptional experience for the price. Checking is at 3pm, but we were early and they allowed us to drop our bags. We went to a lovely coffee shop to kill some time (Coffee An). We booked a comfortable “Economy Twin Room” with a Western-style bed and pillows. We had a very comfortable sleep. The room had a little desk and a private washroom. There is a tub unfortunately we couldn’t use it as they just want you to use the shower, so no plug is provided. Wifi was consistently strong. We got a nice little amenity kit - slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and shaving cream. The temperature control in the room was great. There is a very comfortable lounge area. A seating area with tables to work or eat at. They provide a microwave, sandwich press, toaster oven and full kitchenette (including a fridge). We watched a couple of ladies prepare a really lovely soba meal for themselves. Coffee and tea are self serve and available all night. A free self serve breakfast was provided but we were so in love with Coffee An we went there instead. There are two coin operated laundry machines on the ground floor. A full 8 kg wash and dry is 900¥, and you can run a dry only cycle (for those rainy hiking days) for only 100¥! They also provide bicycle rentals. And at the front desk you’ll find a book with restaurant recommendations. Just across the street is a diner that makes amazing burgers: SB Diners.

We do wish that we could have had a hot bath.

The hostel itself is very clean and well maintained, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the shared facilities are very good. I still really liked the 24-hour lounge, the well-equipped kitchen, the refrigerator for guests, and the free coffee and tea. I also appreciate the quiet hours from 10 pm to 7 am. Apart from the sleeping situation, I was still very satisfied with the hostel. The location is convenient for the train station, the river and the city centre, and the facilities and cleanliness are excellent. In addition to that, the locker is very spacious and provides plenty of room for storing valuables securely. Overall, I still like PAQ Hostel and would stay here again, but based on my experience I would choose a single room rather than a dorm.

I had previously stayed at PAQ Hostel in a single room and had a very good experience, so I was happy to stay here again. Unfortunately, I had a very different experience in the dorm. The dorm was fully booked during my stay because of Silver Week, and it was very noisy at night. The door to the dormitory was particularly difficult to close quietly, so there was a lot of noise whenever someone entered or left the room. I was barely able to sleep on one of the two nights. A few hooks and a small shelf or storage space inside the capsule would also be useful and practical.

I didn’t have the breakfast but the location is very convenient for getting breakfast in the area.

Close to the station. A light breakfast was provided for free. Staff were friendly. Relatively cheap so overall good value for money.

The check-in time was a bit early, so I had to adjust my schedule accordingly. The number and location of toilets and showers were not suitable for a guesthouse with dormitories. The capsule was also not very well equipped (not enough power outlets, etc.).
