Hornsbury Mill

Selection of breakfast food limited but good . Dinner was superb . Lovely garden.

The lounge and reception areas were undefined with office space in 3 areas , no focal point ie a fire . En suite a bit tired.

Spotlessly clean, beautiful location and wildlife such as a peacock strutting around the grounds

We loved Hornsby Mill. Our room was very comfortable and quite large. The garden extensive and great for walking the dog. We enjoyed a delicious meal on one evening and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very close to Ford Abbey a great place to explore with beautiful gardens and dog friendly.

The hotel is close to a busy road to take the dog for a longer walk we had to drive to a different location.

A good location on the outskirts of Chard, with lovely grounds. The restaurant was lovely with the old water wheel still turning - a lovely feature. The food in the restaurant at dinner was simply excellent and quite good value. Breakfast, by comparison, was disappointing overall. The cooked breakfast was fine, but for anyone wanting just a continental breakfast (which was me!) it was a disaster. There was no fruit of any description; the choice of cereal was extremely limited and there was just nothing of interest - no granola, for example, just a bowl of oats with a few - and I mean literally 3 or 4 - raisins in. The only bread was sliced "supermarket" bread for toasting, no rolls or croissants. Yawningly boring, I'm sorry to say, which was so disappointing as the dinner we had in the restaurant was nothing short of exquisite!

The staff simply didn't engage. They were perfectly ok, but just did their jobs, We stayed 3 nights, but not once did anyone ask how our day had been. I was unwell on our second night and asked if the restaurant might be able to do me something simple like an omelette, but I was told in no uncertain terms that all I'd be able to have was a bowl of chips. Also, on our way to the hotel, we had a phone call asking if we'd like to eat in the restaurant that evening. We'd understood from the website that it wasn't open on Tuesdays but it turned out it was. We were told it was 'filling up' so we'd need to book, so we said yes please. In the event, it was just my wife and I plus two single blokes in the restaurant. We'd always intended to eat there - and the food was absolutely amazing - but we felt we'd been conned into booking for the Tuesday night when we there for 3 nights. The room was pleasant enough but the bathroom was pretty shabby and seemed to have had nothing done to it for a couple of decades or more; the shower only worked if it was removed from its holder and held low to the ground to trigger the pump, which isn't ideal.
