Bay Palace Mazzarò

The hospitality of the staff and the overall last minute accommodations of getting us in. Everything was perfect here! 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Sea view room. Staff members extremely helpful. Lovely pool but shady by afternoon. Ok location to walk to cable car & beach access across road.

Not close to supermarket. Very light on replenishing room with toilet paper, teaa, coffee, towels. Sheets not changed daily. Only one power point for fridge which we had to unplug to plug in kettle.

The room had a sea view, exactly as booked, and was clean and spacious. Some of the facilities could use a little maintenance, but everything was exactly as shown in the photos, so there were no unpleasant surprises. There was also plenty of hot water with no issues at all. The hotel is close to the railway line, as are most hotels in this area, so it is normal to hear trains passing by. However, this did not interfere with my rest or sleep. The hotel also has a lovely swimming pool with a beautiful view over Taormina, which was a great feature. The location is very convenient, around a 10-minute walk from the funicular, with Spisone Beach also within walking distance.

Parking at the hotel is very limited and costs €25 per night. We ended up parking our rental car on the road, and on the third day, the outer plastic cover of one of the side mirrors was stolen. This meant we lost most of our morning reporting the theft and damage to the police. Another downside is pedestrian access to the hotel. You have to walk along a winding main road with no pavement, while cars and motorbikes pass very close by, which felt extremely unsafe. Guests are also not allowed to bring outside food into the hotel. Finally, breakfast costs €12 per person and, in my opinion, it was nothing special and not really worth the price.

The location and swimming pool view are fantastic

This hotel has seen better days. It’s quite tatty, but has an old school charm. The room had a mouldy smell, the bar prices were over-inflated and the staff were unhelpful and rather miserable. When my original booking was cancelled due a system error, the hotel refused to honor the booking, despite booking.com requesting directly to the hotel and I was forced to pay over £100 extra for the same room. They wouldn’t even throw in breakfast as a goodwill gesture. The beds and pillows are low quality. The parking is extortionate. Free parking on the road 5 mins walk away.
