Janus Paradise Rest

Small family run hotel, quirky, in a great beachfront location (free use of sun loungers) a few kilometres from Bentota town. Breakfast is good - ample offerings both Sri Lankan and western, served in the restaurant located directly over the beach. Our first floor room had a balcony with direct sea views. There’s a small but very pleasant swimming pool, and 2 extremely friendly golden retrievers!

Whilst the beachfront location is great, it’s not walkable into town. There are a couple of restaurants within reasonable walking distance, or a short tuktuk ride into Bentota for a wider choice. Also, July is in “monsoon” season, and whilst there was plenty of sunshine to enjoy, the ocean was way too rough to swim.

From the moment we arrived to the day we left, Janu's staff went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We were greeted with cool towels and a drink and our bags magically disappeared to our room. The room was perfectly comfortable with a lovely view of the sea. The first night was my birthday and my partner mentioned this to the staff just before we were seated at dinner. Before we had finished our starter, a birthday cake was brought to our table with all the staff singing 'happy birthday'. They had gone to a local baker and bought a cake! Every day the cleaning staff arranged our towels in a different design. Not a huge thing but sweet all the same. The restaurant served wonderful food, we didn't bother eating anywhere else. The pool was warm and clean and we had breakfast on the beach every day. What's not to like. If I could give Janu's Paradise Rest 10 stars I would

If I had to be really picky, the showers aren't the best but it didn't make any difference to our stay.

Lovely, reasonable and comfortable stay.Location of the hotel is the best,right next to the beach.Enjoyed the long walks & swim. Very delicious food,both local & continental.Staff is very warm & ever so helpful.Mr.Janu the owner overlooks operations personally. 2 lovely & very friendly golden retrievers to welcome you,real paradise for dog lovers.Not very far from the town centre, easily accessible.Will make my visit again.

Nothing at all

1. Breakfast was real good. Staff was friendly and listened to our questions 2. Location, Swimming pool was real good. Rooms were comfortable - but not near each other. 3. They accomodated our dinner request that we paid and it was good as well - as we are all vegetarians.

1. They had like 4 dogs and few dogs jumped on my brother - when he walked out. We had told them - that some of the guests dont like dogs - but still the dogs werent friendly and some of the guests got apprehensive. 2. The Air conditioner - even though they stated it was new - didnt work. The rooms didnt get cold at all. Of the 4 rooms we stayed in only 1 worked. Other 3 - was so- so. Even after we complained the staff will come and press buttons on the remote - and tell us..give it 20,30 mins and it will be cold - but it never got cold. We complained atleast 4,5 times. 3. we requested rooms close to each other - but i think they dint have those types of rooms. one 4 - bed was near beach and 2nd 4 bed was in 3rd floor and other 2 rooms with 2 bed was near each other. 4. In 2 rooms we didnt get hot water - but give the hot weather[June 30 and July 1 2025] - we badly needed the a/c.
