We booked last minute. When we arrived at the door, we called to ask how to get in. The host refused to give us the access code because we first had to check in online. That meant standing on a busy street doing a clumsy 20-minute online check-in, including uploading all kinds of photos of our documents. Everyone was tired from the journey and the long walk and just needed the bathroom. The tone of the host was also very rude. Late in the evening the lock stopped working and we couldn’t get in. Again, the very unfriendly host on the phone said they could send someone, but it would take a long time. In the end, after a lot of fiddling, we managed to get the lock open ourselves. At 10 in the morning the cleaning crew barged into our room and told us to leave. The appartment was good but it was by far the least hospitable experience we’ve ever had in Italy.
