Hotel Flex

5-10 minute walk from Hiroshima station, used old style keys which was a nice touch. Decent hotel stay for 1 night.

You have to go through a specific entrance/exit from Hiroshima station to get to the hotel, but this is just a navigation quirk.

It was my second time staying at Hotel Flex since my last time in 2007 when I stayed in its mezzanine. This time it was on the 10th floor with a great view overlooking the river and a short walk from Hiroshima station. Like a penthouse, it included a sky terrace with a garden and table and chairs to relax and enjoy the view. The bathroom, with a private window on one wall, looks into the terrace. Another window offers a view of the river. Comfortable twin beds. It comes with Japanese sleepwear and relaxing eye masks. Breakfast, at 1,000 yen offers choices. One is French toasts, another is a platter with an egg, salad and toasts. Various drinks to choose from. The dining area looks out at the riverside that enhances your time.

I would recommend more ports for modern-day devices (USB-C). The shower has many functions. What was missing was a shower curtain to prevent the water from the shower from splashing on the floor creating a puddle. It could pose potential slipping issues. The staff members were excellent, friendly and helpful with recommendations on where to eat.

Very close to the station. The room had a great view to the river. Also, there were 2 windows not one, so a lot of light. The AC is integrated in the building and blows air via an opening in the wall, not a standard indoor unit like we have at home, and has a "low" setting which is good, you can sleep with it turned on without having freezing air blown to your face. The room has a reasonably large desk with some drawers so we had enough storage space. There is a kettle and a receded space for hanging clothes. The bathroom is very small but well equipped, including a tub and a Toto Washlet Toilet+Bidet, which is a fantastic invention I haven't seen anywhere in Europe. We didn't try the breakfast so we can't rate it. There also were lots of restaurants and "kombinis" (24h convenience stores) in the area. One Family Mart was right next door.

The room was a bit small but this seems to be the standard in Japan. It matches the photos on the site, so no surprises there. The TV is very small, but this is not an issue for us, we don't typically use it while travelling.
