Excellent location to stay during the Kumano Kodo. Very cheap and reasonably priced for what you get. Nice free snacks and confectionery were appreciated!
One bathroom/shower in the house and only given one tiny towel that didn’t help much to dry off. No staff onsite to ask if there were more/bigger towels available anywhere.

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Location is a stone’s throw from Hongu Taisha, so perfect if you’re doing the Kumano Kodo. The property itself has a large kitchen and living space, and the bunk beds are spacious and comfy. The host is beyond generous - helped me so much and even gifted food for the next day, he is the last practicing Shugendo monk in Hongu so I feel very honored to have met him!
There’s only one shared shower room but I didn’t have to wait to use it.

Friendly host.
When arriving, you get some bread, yoghurt and banana. Also a lot of snacks inside the house & your room
Clean kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Comfortable beds
Very close to the temple and shrine
Close to the bus station
Tip: go to miyazushi restaurant. Best sushi we ever ate! Also good udon and Wagyu. Friendly people as well
Unrelated to the stay, at night you hear a dog barking which could interrupt your sleep

It was a super convenient location if you’re looking to stay in Hongu after walking!
It was really dirty, the spaces were all very gross and they didn’t seem well kept up on.
