The hotel felt like a little oasis of peace and calm in the town. Staff were helpful.

We like big old family-owned hotels that aren't part of a chain, and this one nearly meets all of those criteria (it's part of a small family chain). The room was fine, spacious, quiet, and accessed via long carpeted corridors. There was a good clean bathroom with all mod cons. But the real treats are downstairs: there's a lovely bar with table service, and the restaurant under its Grade 1 listed ceiling from 1620, was the highlight of our trip. It really is very good indeed, worth the detour as they say, and with excellent service. We really enjoyed staying here.
We couldn't open the window very wide.

The hotel was very welcoming, incredibly clean and all of the staff were absolutely fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Will definitely be staying here again 😊
The only one down side is the parking, it is a first come first serve basis so unfortunately if you don't time it just right you will end up having to park in a main pay and display car park but in all honesty this is just down to where the hotel is situated and no fault of the staff.

Lift wasn’t working and we were on the third floor in an airless shoe box despite the fan.
All of The Above and Barnstaple looks like it’s on its last legs, a barren high st, grubby and Graffitied.
