Royal Hotel

Breakfast was excellent on all 5 days, both continental and full breakfast. All the staff were professional and attentive. Sarah was a stand-out staff member with her pleasant demeanour and her professional approach effectively managing the breakfast session. Location was central to many facilities and parking with limitations, wasn't a problem during our stay. Great view of the castle at breakfast

It's in a great location, right in the heart of Stornoway. Having said that, Stornoway is really small, so its easy to get anywhere from anywhere else. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant is amazing! There is a small car park at the back of the hotel, but places are limited. The good bit about it, though, is that there is an entrance from the back car park which takes you in and out of the hotel at an upper level and, also, our room was right next door to it, so it was easy to get in and out.

Sorry to say this guys, but the bed in our room was terrible! It was a small double and the mattress seemed so sag in the middle, so we kept sinking into each other. It was really uncomfortable as well. Probably the worst nights sleeps (3 we had) I have had in any hotel for a long time. In all honesty, I couldn't wait to leave and move on to our next hotel in our next holiday location, which I knew had a bigger and much more comfortable bed, because it was a Premier Inn. I also got the feeling we had been allocated the room that we were because we had booked through here, and if I had called the hotel directly it may have resulted in a better room. Please don't let this put you off the hotel, though, because I'm sure the other rooms might have had better beds. The location, food, staff and general look of the place (outside of our room) are really good.
