The building was delightfully old and exactly what we wanted for our stay in Kyoto, it felt like being a part of history. While the whole time we were there we did not run into any staff, all of the instructions were super clear and we took towels and paid for them by leaving money in the envelop. The location was walking distance from Kyoto station and was easy to get on buses to go to where ever you want around the city.
If you are a traveler who would like staff presence, then I think this place might not be for you. Everything here works on honor system. And I really enjoyed how detailed and helpful the printed guides are. But I would understand if one would like to have some human interaction.

The rice porridge offered to guests was original
and exceptional. That they grow the rice as well
and promised to close if they could not was even
more uncompromising than I have encountered.
Booking.com can be proud of this place to stay!
The sliding door for my room and lock could need
some attention (rm 4205) but it was an excellent
spacious zen accommodation in Kyoto for me.

The place was spacious and comfortable. There was also free coffee and a refrigerator available downstairs, which was very convenient.
Nothing in particular. Everything was good.

I really loved that it was a 1,000-year-old traditional Japanese house. The style and atmosphere were beautiful, and I was especially impressed by how clean and well-maintained it was, considering its age. It was a unique and charming experience!
However, it wasn’t the most comfortable place to stay. I would recommend it for just one night, mainly for the unique experience of staying in such a historic house. There was also a strong smell coming from the wooden floors, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people with allergies or sensitivity to strong smells.
Overall, it’s a lovely experience for one night, but not necessarily the most comfortable accommodation for a longer stay.
