I liked the efficient check-in. Good value for the price I paid. Good communication about my booking beforehand. Nicely located , not too far off the motorway and convenient for Gloucester. Clean , functional with restaurants and bars. The staff we met were friendly and helpful.

The auto check in worked (although I had to ask where the room was). Noise lessened at closing time. Meal was tasty, but see below...

For a hotel billed as being very old, you wouldn't know it. The room was bland with no hint of history. Pillows were lumpy. Til closing there was quite a lot of noise. I could hear the music in the dining room and people going to and fro and their conversations. I ordered the chicken Kyiv.... there was no garlic butter inside. The sauce was tasty but watery and so made the breaded chicken soggy. The broccoli was replaced with green beans. Not a huge problem. The hassle back potato was a bit overdone but was able to soak up the watery sauce. The staff were clearly overstretched, but polite. On using the auto checkout, I was asked to pay, but I had prepaid. Luckily a member of staff told me all was fine and that I could just go, but that shouldn't happen. The location is simply on a main road so not what the name conjures up (although of course it is thatched!)
