Gasthof Diem

From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome. The owner was very friendly and helpful and all his team were just the same.

Nothing.

The breakfast was excellent and the food at the beer garden/restaurant was top class. The room was adequate, though a bit on the small side. Ensuite was fine with a shower.

As with all our hotel experiences this summer, because there is no air conditioning to escape the unbearable heat, the room was very warm. In an effort to cool it down, one has to open the windows which then means one gets all the outside people and traffic noise. This impacted our sleep just a bit.

The Diem family really appear to take pride in their business. There is the hotel in two buildings, the Restaurant, The Butcher, and their specialty gourmet shop that is branded with their family business. Check in and check were pleasant and the building we stayed in had an elevator for those that need that. The breakfasts were really really good and varied and fresh. Five star breakfast.

The complex is in two building across a narrow cobblestone road. It is not a 'main' road, but it is still travelled late and early and can be noisy. My main complaint is that their complex is about 100 meters from the old church. The church has 3 bells with different tones. It rings the bells separately on the hour based on the time, so 36 rings at midnite. But it also strikes once (3 bells) at 15 and 45 minutes after the hour and twice (6 bells at 30 minutes). It does this ALL THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. Now, if it is 300 years ago and you don't have a clock, maybe it is helpful to get up at 5am to get out to the farm. There is no reason to have those bells ringing after 10 O'clock and certainly not every 15 minutes. In addition, the Diem family was having renovations work done on the main property and woke up to jackhammers at 7:30. If you stay at Gasthof Diem make sure you do not have a street-facing unit, that will at least help with the road noise. I don't know what to say about the Church bells. I can appreciate history and tradition, but I appreciate a good night sleep even more. The community could put some restrictions on sound IF THEY WANTED TO. The really noisy aspects of construction shouldn't start so early.
