Château D'Alteville

I loved it that we could spend time in the garden and in the rooms downstairs that were not bedrooms. There were plenty of places to sit and relax or to have a bite to eat outside. The garden is lovely with cats and chickens to entertain us. We were not in the area for relaxation but for a ceremony and the timing did not allow for us to participate in the chateau's breakfast or dinner. There is a supermarket in a nearby town that we stopped at to pick up some bread, cheese, and dessert. The host, David, is friendly and is able to chat in English. He suggested a better way for us to drive to Colmar when we left the chateau. We took his advice and it was great. Thanks! Our room and the bed were fine. We enjoyed the giant bathtub but we are almost too old to get in and out of it!

The bathroom was a bit dark and the light would dim on its own which made it worse. My personal preference is for a more typical hotel type of room but I can't fault the chateau for not being like that because it is not meant to be like that.

What an exceptional find ! A very last minute booking but we were welcomed in like family and made to feel at home . The Chateau definitely has character and it was lovely to hear and experience some of its history. It definitely has french charm with so many beautiful furnishings and the garden is delightful either by the lake or sat enjoying a drink admiring the view. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner which was shared with other guests around one table but a lovely way to socialise over a beautiful dinner .
