Candeo Hotels Nankai Wakayama

We loved the breakfast buffet with traditional Japanese food and a great view over the city. A great highlight as well was the onsen on the top floor which was open until very late in the night and never crowded. We basically had it to ourselves (it was men and women separately). There was even an outdoor onsen where you had a great view over the city and the river and could look up at the sky and relax. The room was quite big as well and had everything you need. The staff was super friendly and helped with the suitcase courier service (Takkyubin) as well. There are a few great gardens in the area as well which are great for a quiet walk. We would also recommend visiting the wakayama castle as it has interesting exhibits about historical events, people and their clothes. If you are interested in samurai you should check it out as well. In the castle garden there is a lovely teahouse which serves delicious matcha with a sweet treat, so make sure to enjoy this as well:)

The temperature and air in the room was a bit too warm, but apart from that everything was great:)

Lovely hotel right above Nankai Wakayama Station. (Not Wakayama Station.) Great location, with a gourmet supermarket right downstairs, along with a small food court. Great restaurants within walking distance. The 12th floor Sky Spa was great. The open-air ofuro (common bath) is like an infinity pool and has a relaxing view of the river and city. Breakfast was very good. Really appreciated the homemade tofu and some local specialties. Best hotel of my trip.

My room looked out over the station and I could *slightly* hear announcements and trains braking. This really wasn't a problem, since I love trains. A light sleeper might be awakened early, though. Overall, though, all the plusses more than make up for this minor shortcoming.

A great contemporary design hotel with excellent rooftop spa. Restaurants and train station nearby makes very convenient.
