Great location and cost performance. It was clean and I thought the bed was fine and the air conditioning was just right. I appreciated the easy check out with the key drop off box and didn't have any issues with the wifi either. The other guests were kind and quiet too which was a nice bonus!
I only really have one thing I can complain about and that is that one of the showers was out of body soup in the dispenser. It was also generally lite on amenities but as a hostel that is what I was expecting so not really an issue.

Location is superb, in the sweet spot between the city centre, Gion and Nothern Higashiyama, at a walkable distance from many sightseeing spots. The room is big, with space for a double bed and a sofa.
The room was not very clean, especially the sofa, and the blankets had a few small stains. There is a small window that doesn’t let much light in.

Great location. At the heart of the Gion District, and oversees the Kamo River. Comfortable beds.
The hostel is extremely barebones. There is a bed and some lockers and that's it. There are no curtains around the beds, no shelves around them to keep your stuff, no lamps next to your bed. There are tiny stools in the bedroom, but no comfortable desks or chairs. The common room is tiny and not particularly inviting.
Staff wanted to scan my residence card. Per Japanese law, they are not really supposed to do that. I am not happy that they made a copy of my personal information.
