Spacious room and bathroom with stunning views across golf course.

Very firm mattress on bed, after 2 nights we had stiff backs from sleeping on it. Most of the staff were lovely, especially the Cave Bar staff, and waitresses / hosts in the restaurant, just our check in experience could have been better as we were just handed the keys - no help offered with bags, or explanation about breakfast times etc. We were always getting lost going to / from our room, bit of a warren of corridors which was poorly signed.

Lovely grounds, rooms are nicely done out. House is beautiful, nice setting. We didn't play golf, but the course looked nice.

Room was incredibly dark, just not enough lighting in our room even in the middle of the day. Just one quite dim ceiling light, and no where to be able to do make up in the daylight - or even in a bright light. Our room did state restricted view, which I hadn't really noticed when I booked - but a small window with a view of the bins isn't always the best! Service in restaurant - chaotic...I couldn't criticise the staff, they were all keen and eager to please. But too many people arriving for breakfast at the same time, no real management directing the taking of orders for breakfast - our hot food took an hour to arrive, as did the table next to us. Another couple didn't get their order at all and left after an hour and a half of waiting. Asked for tea/coffee and that didn't arrive, asked for toast - which arrived well after we had finished eating and without butter and the toast was black. To be fair to the hotel, we complained about our experience and the second day our small group were put in a side room and the service and speed was very good. So they did rectify the situation. With a few other little grumbles the stay didn't spoil our family get together.
