The room was so cool, like not hot. Barton and sitter were great. Cold fridge with waters. Confident bed. The breakfast was good with hands and cheeses and juices and pastries. It was a good spot. You’re basically in a cave like all the houses there but it’s dressed up nice. Definitely some moisture in the air but during a heat wave it was not a problem coming back to the room after climbing the steps of the city all day. Staff was friendly, very good overall

Such a unique property…truly a once in a lifetime experience staying in a cave hotel. If you want a 5 star hotel then look elsewhere; however, if you want charming, family-run old world charm, this is your place. The gentleman (and his dog) who ran the place were very kind and welcoming. The location was amazing with one of the best viewpoints of Matera steps outside of our door. Short walk to central square and restaurants/shops. We parked at a parking lot outside of ZTL and walked in (lots of stairs so be prepared)! Cave room was unique. Only thing (which was mentioned in prior reviews) is that room is a little damp (& sheets get a little damp) from the humid conditions of the cave, which we were prepared for & did not think was a huge problem. Great stay! And Matera is amazing!

Cave B&B. Right at the heart of old Matera city. Driving there is not possible, so either have a small luggage or be ready to drag the luggage through medieval streets. There’s a Maison or Casa Cava that is close to drive by to load and unload the luggages, but still hard to drive to. Just a heads up. The host speaks little English. Breakfast has a great selection and very fresh.

It’s hard to find but the experience of staying there is worth the trouble. Walk there first in order to find it before you bring your luggage.
