Minshuku Hiroshimaya

The guesthouse is located inside / right next to a temple, which you have to cross to access the house. Very special location and experience ! The host was also lovely, and gave us a warm and energetic welcome

It’s a very special location that will appeal to people who enjoy staying somewhere unique - way different to a hotel. It’s a beautiful building and I loved that it was set among all of the temples. I found it very spiritual. The owners are just amazing so kind and the breakfast every morning was incredible. They even made a special gluten-free for me. The soba noodles were so good!!! I absolutely loved it. Yoko especially was so thoughtful even helping me with a laundry mishap and meeting me with her husband at the station when I forgot my key. When you drive up from the main station it might feel a little out of the way but walking home at night (Kumamoto castle is less than 30 min walk) you realise just how special the Location is - you could not stay anywhere else like it in the world 🙌

The only thing that some people might find challenging is there’s a shared bathroom downstairs and the toilets are on the floor above that so it’s a bit separate from your room but honestly it makes it feel a bit more organic - a little bit like camping (but way more comfortable) and the rooms are so beautiful you don’t really want to ruin it with modern conveniences.

The Host Yoko-San was magnificent! She will treat you like family. She will immediately give you the information and show you the facilities as well as take you to your room. The staff is always on hand help. And you will have one of the best traditional Japanese housing experiences ever. The house alone has a lot of history! And not only will you see you will experience it. The location is fantastic. Very Scenic. It's not too far from public transportation. In a nice very quiet spot. But it's easy to miss.

If your on the tall side of life. You have to be mindful not to bump your head.

The only place I've deliberately booked twice, just because of how nice the first stay was. It is an old but beautiful building, right in the middle of a temple. Despite its age it offers just about any modern amenity you could wish for. However by far the best thing about this place is its owner. Just a wonderful lady all around, whose passion is caring for this abode and its guests. If you can book with breakfast, please do! It is a home-cooked traditional Japanese breakfast, made fresh every day. I even got it for free, because she forgot to tell about the pick-up service and she felt bad that I had to walk.

Nothing! The perfect stay. I will say, that the location is not central and if you have problems with walking up stairs this might not be the place for you. Also they have shared showers/bathrooms, as is common in such "minshukus".
