Nestled in the tranquil heart of the Boaventura valley—at the very doorstep of Madeira’s UNESCO-protected Laurissilva forest—Quinta do Conde is a hidden countryside sanctuary where raw natural beauty meets refined comfort. Surrounded by a dramatic amphitheater of soaring green mountains and traditional terraced fields (poios), this property offers a peaceful retreat into the authentic, untamed spirit of northern Madeira.
Life here revolves around the seamless connection between the home's warm interior and its expansive grounds. Outside, a private swimming pool rests against a backdrop of jagged peaks, offering an inviting space to unwind after a day exploring nearby levadas and hiking trails.
Tucked into the lush lawn, a traditional thatched-roof gazebo (palheiro) creates a shaded wooden sanctuary on the grass—a serene spot for morning yoga, meditation, or simply listening to the gentle rustle of the valley breeze. Nearby, a grand covered porch (alpendre) with a solid timber dining table and built-in outdoor grill sets the scene for long, relaxed alfresco meals cooked with fresh local ingredients.
Inside, the house honors classic Madeiran craft while delivering contemporary comfort. High ceilings with exposed timber beams, rich wood accents, and sleek dark stone floors create a cozy, grounded atmosphere. Generous floor-to-ceiling glass doors open directly from the firelit living area and spacious kitchen to the garden, filling the home with natural light and endless mountain views. After evenings spent watching the light fade over the peaks, quiet bedrooms and modern, refreshed bathrooms provide a restful end to each day in the valley's deep, undisturbed calm.

If you like having a bunch of feral cats around you day and night, this is the place for you. Unfortunately I am allergic to cats and also wouldn’t want them in the house at any time. On each occasion that we opened a window or a door, only an inch or so, there was a bunch of cats desperate to get in! So when the sun was shining and we wanted to have doors and windows open we couldn’t. If we sat outside they were also bothering us all the time. We complained to the agent but they couldn’t do anything. The house is nice. The kitchen is far too big and we were always walking a long way from the cooker to the fridge to the cupboards etc. very poor design. There was only one shower, despite the property details saying there were two bathrooms. The route to the property was not clear. Google maps took us up a farm track which was extremely difficult to back down from. There was no hoover, just a small dustpan and brush, and with tiles throughout the place it got dusty and crumby quite quickly. Lovely location and beautiful garden.
