Hotel hi! Tecnológico Garza Sada

It is a no-frills hotel, even simpler than the Ibis-standard, located in central Monterrey, just steps away from Morones Prieto, a major thoroughfare that takes you west-east mostly everywhere you would want to go in a business or leisure trip. Tec de Monterrey and all the restaurants, bars, supermarkets, malls and services around it (aka Distrito Tec) are really close. The parking lot has limited space, so park early to make sure you get a spot. My room was spotless clean, in truly pristine condition, polar A/C (yes!!), amenities are very limited, but enough for a short stay in a business trip, or if you are traveling for leisure on a budget (for instance if you are visiting Monterrey for a concert, soccer game, etc, and you don't want to spend lots of money in lodging). The room was small, but not super small, I don't watch TV, so I cannot tell you about entertainment options, but there was one in the room. The bathroom is comfy, warm and hot water all the time, good water pressure in shower. A plus: the window panes (2nd floor) have double glass, so you don't get lots of noise from the traffic jams in nearby Morones Prieto freeway. It's close to everything, that is great in a city with heavy traffic like Monterrey. There is no restaurant inside, but food apps get all you want in minutes over there. The staff is friendly, and check in/out procedures are truly swift. Last but not least, my room (210, 2nd floor) had an outstanding view of Cerro de la Silla, a local landmark (huge mountain towering over Monterrey).

The neighborhood is a bit edgy, it's definitely not a place to walk around. If you get there walking or using public transportation, make sure to arrive before dusk. This is definitely not the most dangerous spot in Monterrey, but it's also not so tourist-friendly. There is something kind of quirk concerning bookings. If you don't arrive before 4pm to get your room, your booking is cancelled unless you make a transfer to their bank account. It is easy to transfer (but not necessarily if you're a foreigner with a bank account outside the Mexican epayment system), but I would rather pay in advance with a credit card in a system like Booking or other platforms, and arrive whenever I want or can. I landed there at 2pm, I had to wait for my rental car, it's quite a drive from the airport to the hotel, so I got there before 4pm to pay for my room, but I had an appointment at 5pm, and it was not part of my plan to stop at the hotel earlier. In most hotels your room is guaranteed regardless the time you arrive. I manage to accommodate, but it was not convenient. They could make prepayments friendlier by trusting travel reservation platforms to do it for them, like most hotels do. Apart from that, everything was great.

That it was close to the stadium, had good AC and nice staff

No restaurant in and that most places were closed on Sunday
