Just 5 km from Sagres, Cabo de São Vicente juts out over the Atlantic from a breathtaking rocky landscape. A small fortress with a lighthouse marks the southwesternmost point of Europe and offers magnificent views of the Costa Vicentina.
The windswept cape, once revered by the Romans as the seat of the gods, becomes a pilgrimage site in the evening for romantics, who sit in droves on the edge of the cliffs and squint at the sunset.

Fortaleza de Sagres:
Perched on a rocky outcrop high above the sea stand the ruins of a fortress, the Vila do Infante, where Henry the Navigator is said to have systematically planned his great voyages of discovery. The current complex dates back to the 16th century. In the center stands the small Capela Nossa Senhora de Garca. In front of the chapel is a huge compass rose with a diameter of 43 meters, laid out with stones on the ground.

West Coast:
The West Coast (Vicentina), which begins in Sagres and extends northward for over 100 km as a nature reserve, offers unique coastlines and natural landscapes.
