THE VILLAGE OF MONTSEGUR-SUR-LAUZON
Montségur, in Occitan, means “Mount Ségur,” which translates to “Mount Sûr.” This explains the castle built on the rocky promontory overlooking the village and the Lauzon Valley, surrounded by a fortified village of which remnants of the ramparts still remain.
Also worth seeing are the village’s beautiful chapels:
-The Chapel of Saint Felix, built around 950 at the same time as the castle with the help of monks from the Abbey of Saint-Amand,
-The Chapel of Saint Jean (the closest to the Villa), built in 1747,
-The Saint-Claude Chapel, built in the 9th century along the ancient Roman road from Grignan to Orange.
-The 10th-century Notre-Dame des Barquets Chapel, located along the ancient Roman road from Saint Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Grignan.
