Reit im Winkl, a climatic health resort: According to Wikipedia, the designation “climatic health resort” is awarded to “towns whose air and climate, according to an expert assessment, possess qualities that are beneficial for recreation and health.” Reit im Winkl was designated a health resort in 1956 and has consistently met the criteria for this designation ever since through its ongoing efforts. One key factor is its high elevation, which ensures that summer heat is moderated and nights remain pleasantly cool. The town is surrounded by extensive mountain forests of the Chiemgau Alps and, in terms of its general climate, belongs to the “Bavarian Alps” climate region. The character of the weather is largely determined by the local conditions—that is, by the influence of the mountain ranges and valleys on weather patterns. In addition to the natural conditions that ensure good air quality, we actively work to preserve the fresh mountain air through the use of geothermal energy and an extensive bus network.
With our in-house e-bikes, you can stay active even while on vacation and explore the surrounding mountains. The ski bus is just a few minutes’ walk away and takes you to the Winklmoos-Alm valley station in under 10 minutes. From there, you can take the gondola directly to the Winklmoos-Alm-Steinplatte ski area. You can also reach the cross-country trails on foot in just a few minutes.
