Amazing facilities in the kitchen and private bedroom. Bathroom so clean and everything provided. Location is absolutely brilliant and allows you to wonder around the area and see the canals, visit the Ropeway all afternoon and evening with only a short walk back to the hostel

The check in process unexpectedly turned into a phone call with a call centre via an iPad. I guess they were checking safe entry of genuinely booked people. Although my Japanese is pretty good, when I asked to repeat one small thing they refused to speak in Japanese any longer and instead spoke in rapid hard to understand English sounding quite annoyed with me. I worked out what to do but it was a big change from the very friendly person at the Front Reception (just down the road at the back of the Machiya Club). I’m guessing the iPad check-in is done through a third company / call centre, so this shouldn’t affect anyone’s impression of the actual hostel and it’s beautiful facilities and excellent location
