On business in Taunton opted for a smaller out of the way hotel it was a bit rundown and in my room room 2 it had damp water ingress marks on the ceilings smelt a bit musty but for one night ok, Its a very old building and requires money and time spending on it to get up to modern standards. Bedding was fresh and clean, real ale i bar good no evening meal on mondays had to go across the road

We thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome, the comfortable room with crisp clean linen. The bar was friendly with a good selection of local beer and cider. We had dinner in the restaurant which featured local beef and lamb. A particularly good breakfast which featured, joy of joys, Cornish kippers among a wide range ofalternatives. .

Nothing. Plenty of parking too.

The room was large - we stayed here a year ago in a different room on the floor below. The bar and dining room are lovely and the breakfast was good - cooked food - more select and refined than typical cafe style. Much better than our last stay here. The car park is improving as is the decor in the communal areas of the hotel.

We found the bed a little springy and the room a bit sparse looking. Also, there was no TV (out for repair?). The manager asked if we were bothered and we said no because we knew we were going to be out for the night. A shelf and possibly another towel rail in the bathroom - it's big enough.

The hotel's central location was convenient, although this did come with some drawbacks. The room was very noisy late into the evening due to traffic on the narrow roads, with cars travelling at speed and the noise echoing down the street. There was also considerable noise from the pub opposite, which made it difficult to get a peaceful night's sleep. The car park was a useful facility and one of the reasons for choosing the hotel. However, on one of the nights I stayed, there were no available spaces. This was particularly inconvenient as I returned late at night, in the dark, carrying heavy bags and had to find alternative parking. Overall, whilst the central location and availability of parking were positives, the traffic noise, pub noise and lack of guaranteed parking did detract from the experience.

On first arrival, the room appeared to be OK, although it was quite small, a little tired and in need of some refurbishment there were stains on the ceiling and both mirrors were too low, in addition when I turned out the light to go to sleep, I noticed a gap of at least 2–3 inches around the door. This allowed both sound and excess light into the room, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Breakfast was included in the price, which I appreciated. The first morning, I was served a cooked breakfast, as requested, together with a pot of coffee. Once the lovely lady had cleared away my plates, she asked if I would like some toast and marmalade, which I happily accepted. On the second morning, breakfast and coffee were served as usual, but this time nobody offered me any toast. After waiting for some time, I eventually asked the gentleman who had brought my breakfast whether I could have some. He agreed, but his manner was rather begrudging. There was no friendly interaction, smile or even a thank you, and the toast and marmalade were simply put on the table before he walked away. I found his customer service very poor and felt that asking for something so simple was an inconvenience. On the third morning he lovely lady was back serving breakfast, which was a relief. Again, I waited to be offered toast, but nothing was forthcoming, so I eventually caught her attention and asked if I could have some. Her response was, "I'll see what I can do." A few minutes later, she brought me some toast and marmalade. However, the toast had already been buttered or had margarine spread on it and was quite soggy. When I mentioned this, she explained that they had given it to me as a favour because they no longer offered toast, and apologised before walking away. Having been offered toast and marmalade during my first two mornings, I found it disappointing that it suddenly became an issue
