The Fiction What I liked * The hotel is clean, attractive and thoughtfully designed, and the bed was very comfortable. * The minibar was well stocked. * The hotel’s restaurants were a real highlight, and the food was delicious. Breakfast was the exception: the bacon and hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict were disappointing, although the other dishes looked good. * After the mix-ups, the hotel apologised and treated us to dinner, which was a kind gesture.

What could be better * The service felt disorganised, as though the hotel lacked a manager to coordinate the team. My friend and I were given the wrong room details from the start, so staff repeatedly confused us with each other. * The lady at reception on Friday night was very awkward and not particularly friendly, although the rest of the staff were very nice. * The safe instructions were incorrect, and both of our safes jammed, so we had to ask staff for help. They admitted that these were the worst kind of safes and that they constantly caused problems. * The WhatsApp number printed on the room key did not work. Apparently it was a mistake, as reception informed. * I called reception five times about the laundry service but received no answer. When I finally went downstairs, I was told that laundry was unavailable over the weekend, despite the room information saying it could be completed the same day. The directions did not mention any weekend restriction. * Someone else’s restaurant bill was added to my friend’s room. It took the staff about ten minutes to investigate and remove it. * The white sections of the black-and-white hallway carpet looked visibly dirty, which made a poor first impression.
