The Uji Villa is an accommodation that combines a location “convenient for both sightseeing and extended stays” with the freedom unique to renting an entire machiya. The first thing you notice upon arrival is the calm atmosphere of the surroundings and the shift to a private ambiance the moment you step through the entrance. Unlike a hotel, the greatest appeal here is that you can spend your time at your own pace without having to worry about other guests.
The interior layout of the machiya is designed so that even groups of guests won’t feel cramped. Conversations flow naturally in the living room, while in the tatami room, you can take off your shoes, stretch out, and spend your time however you like.Since it’s equipped with a kitchen, it’s ideal for stays that combine dining out with home-cooked meals, as well as for longer stays. It offers the flexibility to suit a variety of purposes, such as workations, small group retreats, and family vacations.
There are also plenty of great options for exploring the surrounding area.Whether it’s a stroll along the Uji River, sightseeing around Byōdō-in Temple, or sampling matcha and traditional Japanese sweets as you walk, you can fully experience the essence of Uji just within walking distance. At the same time, the Uji Villa serves as an excellent “base” for your travels. Using the JR and Keihan lines, you can easily reach not only downtown Kyoto but also Nara by train. This is a great little villa, renovated from a traditional Kyoto townhouse. The 8 of us were quite comfortable. The host was thorough, attentive, and demonstrated impeccable attention to detail. Convenient location for the train. We would most certainly stay here again.
