Welcome to the Fir Millhouse! This lovely home is 1 of 2 beautifully restored homes located in the Jefferson Millhouse. This historic bungalow duplex is located just blocks to the river, downtown AND the Old Mill district. You'll love parking your car and walking all over some of the best spots in Bend. This house was upgraded down to the studs with fastidious attention to historic details in 2014. This millhouse was built by an employee the Brooks Scanlon Lumber Mill in 1920. Original Fir floors, custom fir cabinets and countertops, tile bathroom with clawfoot tub, this is historic at its finest. Coming to Bend with friends? Reserve the Oak Millhouse next door for a spectacular spot to stay in the heart of Bend!
Neighborhood Update (June 30, 2026): There is currently construction occurring in the surrounding area, though not directly on our street. We aren’t able to predict the level of noise or the duration of the project. If a quiet environment is especially important to you, please send us a message before booking, and we’ll gladly share the most current information we have.
***We've just completed adding a soundproofing layer to the shared living room and bedroom closet walls as of Dec 2026! The shared wall between these units runs along the living room, bedroom closets and bathrooms. And all portions of the shared wall has been treated with some combination of insulation, mass loaded vinyl, sound absorbing panels and tile. In the bedrooms, the shared wall contains both the bedroom closets for added separation between the units. Both closets have been treated for sound too. A white noise machine and fans are still provided so you can tailor to your exact wants.
DOWNTOWN LOCATION
An amazing location on a quiet dead-end street in the heart of Bend. Just a block or so to classic Bend favorites like Jackson's Corner and Active Culture. The beautifully renovated Miller's Landing park, with wading areas, kayak launches and the nearby surf wave, is just 2-3 blocks away. Downtown Bend and Old Mill are easily walkable for dinner downtown or a concert at the amphitheater. This is the location you want for your Bend getaway.
HEATING & COOLING
This home is heated and cooled via a wall mounted mini split system in the living room. There are several additional cadet heaters throughout so you can achieve the perfect temperature. You'll find cadets in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining areas. The gas fireplace is thermostat controlled and keeps the home cozy as well. Fans are also provided if you prefer sleeping with a bit of a breeze. All the restored windows open so you are welcome to let the cool mountain air circulate too.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENT & BATHROOM
You'll sleep soundly in the king bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The bed features a king Casper mattress and high thread count linens. There is a wall mounted TV in the bedroom as well as a spacious closet. We also provide a white noise machine and portable fans so you can customize your sleeping experience. The ensuite bathroom is fully restored. The heritage clawfoot tub is freshly refinished and surrounded by lovely period tile work.
KITCHEN AND DINING
The beautifully reclaimed wood in the kitchen was sourced from a single Oak chinkapin fir tree. You'll find custom cabinets, marble countertops and loads of counter and cupboard space during your stay. The kitchen is magnificent for such a sweet vintage home. The dining area features easy seating for up to 4 and is just adjacent to the backyard. You are welcome to use the propane BBQ in the back yard for preparing your meals as well.
OFF STREET PARKING
Your dedicated off street parking is in the driveway of this home. If you need to park on the street for any reason, you will be provided directions to register for this home's free parking permit during your stay. Please follow the directions in the home binder to register your vehicle when you arrive. This is a quiet, dead end street and is not generally suitable for large RVs or trucks towing trailers due to lack of easy turn around.

Enjoy super fast wifi and 2 Smart TVs in the home. There is a dedicated desk and chair in the living room if you need to plug-in and get some work done.
SHARED SPACES
Feel free to relax and enjoy the shared front and back yards. The front yard is definitely shared with the local herd of deer so watch your step in grass in the mornings in case they've stopped by and left you something. The backyard is private and fully fenced, though not separated from the neighboring Millhouse unit. The Millhouse currently has 1 shared propane BBQ in the backyard. We plan to add 2nd BBQ sometime in the future.
QUIET HOURS
This home is nestled into a quiet residential neighborhood and is not appropriate for loud and late parties. City of Bend quiet hours are from 10pm to 7am and are enforced as are Bend's Good Neighbor Guidelines. Between 10pm-8am, especially when outside enjoying the decks, please keep noise levels very low and be considerate to your neighbors. Thank you for respecting our neighbors and helping everyone enjoy this peaceful retreat in Bend.

The house is beautiful. I would give them 5 stars, except for the fact that they did not respond to my message below regarding construction noise in the neighborhood. Though they updated their VRBO listing the day I sent them this message, they did not respond directly to me. Since I did not receive a courteous and prompt response from the host I give them only 4 stars as an overall Rating.Message to host:There is noisy construction around the corner from this house starting at 7:30am both yesterday and today including a huge jackhammer (see attached pic) with very loud rhythmic percussion starting at 9am. This is not a peaceful place to stay, as we had hoped. Of course I do not expect you to control the timing of municipal construction. However, I do expect you to be aware of nearby noisy construction projects likely to occur during my stay. I was not warned about any such project. I have stayed at other places in similar situations where the owner/manager warned me about the potential for noise before I finalized my reservation and offered me a 15% discount as compensation. I felt that was fair, and accepted her offer. Are you willing to extend the same courtesy to me? Thanks for your consideration

Clean, efficient apartment, with comfortable bedding, clean bathroom with ample toiletries, functional kitchen and great location. Quiet street with on site parking, and easy walk to many great spots in Old Bend.

Excellent communication from the management team. They were prompt to respond and fix any issues we had that came up. The house is charming and cozy. My only complaint is that I was the bed/pillows were a little more comfortable, but would definitely stay here again. :)

One of the nicest rentals I have ever stayed in. Host extremely responsive. Charming house that was very cozy and equipped with anything you'd need. In a very nice neighborhood and you could easily walk to the downtown area and river trail. Would love to return again in the summer!
