À propos de cette location de vacances
Il Capo, historically known as the Monte di Pietà or Seralcadio district, is one of Palermo s four ancient quarters. Established during the Arab Norman era just outside the old city walls as a settlement for Dalmatian merchants and soldiers, it preserves a dense, labyrinthine street pattern rich in historical layers and daily life. The epicenter of the neighborhood is its bustling open air market, entered through the monumental Porta Carini gate. Narrow corridors are sheltered by colorful canvas awnings strung between residential facades, evoking an Arab bazaar driven by the rhythmic, melodic vendor calls known as abbanniate. Stalls display an abundance of fresh seafood, local citrus, olives, and signature street food staples such as chickpea panelle, potato crocchè, sfincione, and grilled stigghiola. Beyond its energetic street trade, Il Capo is home to extraordinary artistic and architectural heritage. Its crowning jewel is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a pinnacle of Sicilian Baroque famous for its intricate polychrome marble inlays and delicate stucco reliefs. Nearby stand the 14th century Church of Sant'Agostino, distinguished by its Gothic rose window and cloister, and the neoclassical Teatro Massimo, which defines the quarter's eastern edge. With laundry draped between balconies and community life unfolding directly on the cobblestones, Il Capo stands as one of the most raw and authentic corners of historic Palermo.
