The experience was different from the traditional hotel-stay-on-the-road-home. Our server at breakfast was SO personable! And the river walk was a great way to spend an hour after sitting all day in the car. And the sunrise over the bridge was beautiful!
Because it is an old hotel, the rooms are smaller than current standards, but still comfortable.

Loved the location and the value of the hotel.
The kitchen was not open late. Went to get food at 8 and was told kitchen was closed. Had to go down the road to eat.

Staff was responsive when I encountered problems with accessing my room, but there was a mix-up of room assignments, and they had to correct it; the young woman at the desk apologized for the mix-up. The good news is that the room I was changed to was closer to the steps I had to climb to get up and down the hall. Oddly, I slept well with my CPAP machine, I had better readings because I had to set the machine on a ledge near the bed and stretch the hose from the ledge to the bed.
The room had ants. Granted they were tiny red ants, and there wasn't a great cluster of them, but I found one each on both of the twin beds, one on top of the ice bucket (I did not use the ice bucket while I was there) and three on the wooden desk where I had just set a couple of items down. I called down to the desk, and they said maintenance had gone home for the day; the maintenance man did come the next day and sprayed all the wooden fixtures and the base boards but knowing that ants were in the room at all made for a nervous first night. (He admitted that there had been problems in the past with ants because of people bringing food into the rooms, the smaller rooms are Not furnished with a microwave oven and a refrigerator.)
The mattresses on the twin beds were too soft for comfort, I thought I was going to sink into the bed. Even the edges were too soft to sit on. I know that previous complaints about LH mentioned the beds were hard and lumpy, but being too soft is often a sign of age and wear as well. I meant to leave them a note about checking into having the mattresses replaced with firmer (not hard) mattresses.
The overall room was small, smaller than what I was accustomed to, but that's probably on me; the main selling point of LH was its historic "throwback" atmosphere -- lots of wooden period (early 20th century) furnishings and smallish hotel rooms.
