Valley Motel Pittsburgh

This motel is an OK place to spend a night in the Pittsburgh area if you have no other option, but do not build up your expectations. Rooms are large and clean and the bed comfortable, but that's about it.

We reserved this place because literally every hotel in Pittsburgh was booked for that weekend weeks in advance. This motel is 20 min drive from downtown but we paid what I would expect to pay in a downtown hotel on a regular weekend; price was clearly jacked up, to take advantage of the busy weekend. For this price you get the bare minimum, but no more. No coffee machine in the room. No water bottles. No facial tissue. Bathroom is clean but very small, with nowhere to place your toiletry kit on and no hangers for clothes. The train was a minor annoyance as other reviewers noted, but a major annoyance was the A/C unit which was very loud, even on the lowest setting. At some point during the night I switched it to heating by mistake, and within a minute the room smelled of burning dust and the smoke alarm was triggered. Lastly, the place did not feel inviting - there wasn't even the standard flyer in the room saying "Welcome to Valley Motel, we hope you enjoy your stay".

This is an older motel, but very clean and the staff was courteous. Parking is right in front of the room. The night was quiet with the exception of an occasional train horn at a nearby crossing. For the Pittsburgh area it's an excellent value if all you need is a quiet night's sleep.

My only criticisms would be that I could not find an ice machine even though there was an ice bucket in the room and there was no coffee maker, which seems to be a trend at budget motels. Still, the Valley Motel is a great value.

We stay here each year for the Glory Daze motorcycle show. The rates are always reasonable, the owner/family that runs it is always super nice, and they do a great job with property upkeep and cleanliness. If you get the hot tub room like we did in previous years, the owner makes sure you know how to use it. Amazing place and we will continue to stay here! It has a slightly dated appearance but not in a bad way at all- it's very charming and cozy!
