HI Sacramento Hostel

What’s not to like? Gorgeous old mansion, great location, and the facilities are well above average — honestly, in my experience, HI hostels are reliably awesome. When I stay at one, I know that things will feel clean and cared-for, the kitchen will be well-stocked, and the overall property will be eclectic (in a good way) and very comfortable. This location doesn’t allow alcohol on the premises (just an FYI), and they offer coffee in the morning and refreshing beverages like lemonade and iced tea in the afternoon. The house itself is pretty incredible! Lots and lots to look at and I absolutely love the parlor. I actually lived down the street for 3+ years at 10th & E and always admired this property when I walked by. I probably could’ve gone in and asked to look at the inside, but I never did. So having the chance to stay here, I jumped on it! It’s a pretty chill neighborhood with beautiful tree-lined streets, and usually is pretty quiet at night, plus walking distance to Old Town, the train station, DOCO, and Downtown.

My only complaint would be the a/c turning itself off when 90°+ outside and the sun beating on our windows. My roommates and I suffered through like wilted flowers until I mentioned it to staff, at which point it was quickly remedied with a thermostat checkup. Quite honestly, HI staff were so nice and accommodating and it was a problem easily resolved! I get it, too, because I had an apartment once where the a/c would stop running at random times in the worst of summer, and even though techs came to look at it several times, they couldn’t figure out the issue. Really, I don’t have any complaints — just wanted to mention the a/c thing in case it happens to others, so you know it’s not normal conditions.

Loved everything about this place, will definitely be back! From exceptional staff, great vibes and lots of resources! Would 100% recommend if you enjoy the hostel lifestyle!

Everything about this place was absolutely amazing. My only complaint is the showers. Out of the three showers I took I could not get warm water. Even after leaving running for a little bit to warm up and trying different times of the day. (morning and night ). My friend did shower midday and was able to get hot water so it’s really just a game lol. Despite this one little detail everything about this place was absolutely amazing and I would 100% recommend it to anyone!

Everything is clean and comfortable (except the brief times the a/c thermostat cycles itself off). Clean facilities, spacious rooms, giant kitchen of your dreams, friendly staff, secure, and comfortable. This is a total bargain! HI runs fantastic hostels, like top of the line in terms of cleanliness, thoughtfulness, and care. I lived a few blocks away for 3+ years and genuinely, this is a great location. Walking distance to the train station, Downtown, Old Sacramento, the Capitol, etc. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and other entertainment spots within walking distance, while also usually peaceful and quiet during the night.

Very hard to complain! I'd love coffee available most of the day because my schedule trends later, and I can appreciate the no-alcohol policy, but it would've been nice to relax on the verandah or back patio with a spritz or some such. Genuinely, no complaints. Staff has been awesome, everything clean and comfortable!

Coffee was mediocre and cold.
