Moderne Hostel

Great location. Fast check in process. Friendly staff. Budget friendly.

No stove or oven in kitchen. Also no personal electric or gas cooking equipment allowed. But still a great kitchen setup.

Proximity to the village. Clean rooms.

Bunk beds were not the most comfortable.

Sheets were wonderful. You rarely get sheets and towels in a hostel. Kitchen was very clean. Thank you!

Bunkbed mattresses in hostel were thin and very firm. Kitchen lacked appliances like a stove or oven, but did have a microwave and an electric water heating kettle and 2 very clean stoves.

This was a standard, bare-bones room in a hostel off the main road (busy street) in Mammoth. It's possibly the most affordable place to stay in town that's not camping. The showers and toilets were clean - I was one of the first in the shared bathroom to shower, and I cleaned up after myself, but if someone doesn't, that's not the staff's fault. The kitchen and living room are set up for hikers and thru-travelers, mostly PCT and JMTers taking a night off trail for resupply. It was a friendly, social atmosphere, with most guests making meals and/or dining together vs. going to a restaurant. The hikers' box, full of sundries and food that could supplement any resupply, was a nice touch. I left a few things there. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the bare-bones nature actually helped me as I repacked from my flight before getting on the JMT. Check-in and check-out process were contactless and easy.

There was a bright light outside my window and no matter which way I turned the blinds, there was no blocking it out. Finally, I turned the pillows to the opposite side of the bed (head facing out into the room vs. against the outside wall), put my backpack up against the window and had as good a night's sleep as you can get before a big thru-hike.
