Forte de São Francisco Hotel Chaves

Lots of indoor and outdoor space to relax. We were there two nights and didn’t see it all. All the public areas are immaculate and very clean. The restaurant is light and spacious and serves a very good breakfast. Lots of parking but the uneven cobbles and cambers can make it tricky to manoeuvre a heavy motorcycle. The staff were very helpful and dealt with issues and requests quickly.

I stayed in room 12 which was at the end of the attic corridor and had a sloping ceiling on three sides. This made the room feel very small, especially the bathroom which was awkward to move around in.

Magnifique couvent dans un ancien fort très bien restauré. Nous avons aimé nous promener dans les dédales des couloirs et admirer objets et peintures. Centre ville accessible à pied. Chambre confortable pas très grande.

A great hotel inside a Fort. Lots of parking space and no need to book. 5 minutes walk from pubs and restaurants. All parts of hotel kept very clean and fresh. The breakfast was excellent and had great coffee. Lots of choices including a pancake making machine! Fresh orange juice and good selection of fruit and pastries in addition to a hot selection and all the usual cold meats and cheeses. The waitress at breakfast was very welcoming, unlike the staff at dinner. Beautiful dining room and dinner was also good. Comfortable bed and good shower. A bonus here is a lovely swimming pool - although cold.

Staff not the most friendly and room a little small.

Lots of maintenance issues: Bedroom had probably a flooding in the past that ruined the doors, several broken things in the bathroom, veeery old carpet in the bedroom, very noisy minibar
