The young man who checked me in was lovely and did his job well. The location is beautiful, very picturesque.
My bed looked like it had been slept in, either that or very poorly made.
My shower cold both at night and in the morning. The cleaner taking care of breakfast replied that the boiler is working fine and left it at that. I asked to have breakfast at 8 45 instead of 9 as shower was cold and wanted to get going. She said no, i had to wait to 9. She then went and had a cigarette. Very poor service.
Wouldn't stay again

Location, quirky and different
Rooms dug into a cliff right on the beach…
Strong smell of damp, noisy dehumidifier which I had to turn off to sleep, fire alarm went off during the night, but no communication with staff as to the situation

bar and location is brilliant
our room (7) was very poor. bed was damp with condensation, there was a dehumidifier on in the room but didnt do any good. couldnt sleep on the night as the dehumidifier was very noisy and when turned off the moisture was suffocating.
we left at 6AM and would have left earlier if i hadn’t had a drink the night before. very disappointed as it wasnt cheap.
emailed the management but never got a reply. shame as the sea veiw rooms look beautiful

Rooms with fantastic views. Very different type of hotel unique nothing like it around.
Stopped in the rum room which was small but well designed. Mattress could have been better could feel the springs is the only down side

Good view of marsden rock, staff ok
Room was filthy, not worth the £209 we paid at all. We wrote in the thick dust, and we had to wipe our feet constantly due to the fact it wasn’t clean

The beautiful location
We arrived to filthy blankets, sandy floors, unclean the apartment was and for over 200 a night, on the night before our wedding I expected better.
After numerous attempts to contact the hotel, we have been dismissed. With comments like, “ you should have raised your concerns ON that night” .
Imagine telling your wife to be you weren’t happy and making her feel uncomfortable on what was our first night. We went to the restaurant and the food was almost £140 , we left a lot and sent the arranchini balls back. Which we were told they would refund, but we would have to come back another day as
They didn’t have money in the till.
When I spoke to a member of staff, her attitude was aggressive and negative. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the manager. I am still awaiting a call back from them after several days. Don’t have my hopes up.
Poor staff, cleaning team and overall organisation. Don’t reccomend if you have a special occasion coming up.

Staff were very friendly.location was what we wanted.
Bar closes at 10pm food is very expensive if you are a large family, drink is expensive. Not sure how they can charge the prices with rats running around outside and on tables outside at night. Had to pay £5 for parking which I wasn't made aware of. Lift is the slowest lift in the world for going 2 floors!

Can't beat the location and the foods fantastic.
No cooked breakfast available and no clean towels for next day. Buns etc at breakfast should have been covered up as quite a few flies.

The location is unique and beautiful.
It is right on the beach and the childden loved it. The Grottos beach is rocky but has some rock pool and the beaches at South Sheilds and Seaburn are lovely. We luckily had a glimpse of dolphins.
The view from my window was amazing.
The restaurant is very good and we all enjoyed the food. Breakfast was just toast and cereal wirh lovely muffins and my son would have loved a cooked breakfast bht I was still fulk fro.m prevuous dinner so it was fine.
The staff are really friendly and helpful.
We would love to return and we were sad to leave.
We had a lovely stay and would go back so are not really bothered about the following points.
Room 4 was very hot and needs a fan.
The decor in room 9 was a giraffe on the wall and monkey lamps which I found bizarre in a sea location.
The decor was not to my taste.

This closed at 10pm which is not explained on your itinerary

Location is excellent and ambience fantastic for a relaxing time away.
It could do with some TLC - more attention to detail, frayed carpets, light bulbs not replaced, mattresses are lumpy, dusty.

This is a spectacular location.
It was relaxing and exceptionally beautiful.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
A bit more effort could be taken with the light breakfast.
Bigger coffee cups would be much appreciated.

loved the situation, the cave interior, the view, and the surroundings
we returned in the evening to no heating and no hot water. This was not fixed until it was time to leave.
Breakfast could have included musli & fruit, but staff were lovely who helped with service.
3.0
Exceptionally beautiful location, fall asleep to the sound of waves and seagulls. The staff is friendly.
Where do you start? Unfortunately, one is blinded by the beautiful photos. If you take a closer look, you quickly discover the small inconsistencies.
- Furniture: everything is there, but everything looks like it is not of particularly good quality.
- Renovation: doesn't look like it will last very long. There was a crevice/edge under the carpet. There were already small cracks / wrinkles in some places in the wallpaper. The ceiling tile in the bathroom did not close flush with the wall, gaps were visible. Etc.
- In the bathroom, a towel holder is missing from the sink.
- The floor to the shower is slightly lowered, but too little. The bathroom is submerged when showering and there was no shower mat. The shower was firmly attached too low, we did not figure out how the hand piece was supposed to work.
- Cleanliness seems okay at first glance, but .... I found a piece of popcorn on the floor in the room, so prominently placed that you have to be inattentive to miss it. The chain to adjust the blinds was greasy to the touch, and there was white laundry or something similar on the floor next to the hallway that was not cleaned up - from the time we arrived until we left the next day.
These were all not huge points, but in total they don't add up to a good general impression.
The breakfast was an impertinence. We have now been in numerous hotels and in the UK also in a good number of B&Bs and this was unfortunately by far the worst breakfast. Cereal, muffins, toast/bagels with honey/jam/butter. EVERYTHING was sweet, no hearty alternative and it would NOT take much effort to at least offer packaged cheese or salami. I ate toast with salt, which was the heartiest thing you could take. TOAST WITH SALT! It is not necessary to offer a cooked breakfast (!) but THAT breakfast is a NO-GO.

Amazing place steeped in history. Very different to most hotels. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nothing. Everything was excellent. Have booked another stay already 🤩

the view
the bed quality was poor from the mattress to the bedding , the shower was tiny and the door wouldn’t shut properly , for a boutique hotel it was very budget looking and basic , blind chain was snapped , chipped paint on window ledge, bathroom door kept opening itself and walls in bathroom was streaky with residue

We had lunch and evening meal here as well as an overnight stay. The staff from greeting at check in to check out were so pleasant, helpful and really friendly. We were able to reserve a table of our choice in the cave restaurant too. Reasonably priced drinks and lovely fresh food. The Surf and Turf wrap and sticky toffee pudding was our favourite. Room 8 was a compact double-basic but clean with a great view. We would love to come back and try the deluxe rooms next time. The continental breakfast was all we needed and the muffins were delicious. Thanks for a great stay and exceptional service!
The mattress could do with a topper and a few upgrades to room 8 but it’s the view and food you come for!

The location and quirkiness of it.
We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and had been before and loved everything about the hotel. Very unfortunately this time the room needed a freshen up. There was mould around shower area. Paint peeling from the ceiling. It looked neglected. The main complaint was the food. It was so poor we couldn’t eat it. We were on a 2 night stay too. We found out that manager was being changed the next day and chef was from an agency.
