Modest, but perfectly nice house in a very special setting. Gorgeous foliage, creek, birds, hot tub and pool made it very authentic and memorable. Very easy communication and helpfulness from owners.

Very well equipped. Gardens are amazing with a flowing stream and a working far nearby. Great for walks in the morning. Very clean. Kitchen is nicely stocked. Parking, security, safety, and cleanliness is all as expected. Great stay.

Max was absolutely wonderful about helping us with our booking, as well as tours and local shops where I’d need to rely on getting items.
The house was spotless, beds extremely comfortable, private hot tub for each home and a beautiful clean pool.
The foliage on the property was absolutely magical. We woke each morning to lizards and birds with a nearby stream.
As for safely, there was an electric gate to enter and exit the property.
Thank you!!

We would have paid an entrance fee just to walk the gardens and enjoy the lush landscaping at Bukala Village. Before our trip, I researched too many properties to count to select the perfect Costa Rica locations and homes for our family vacation. We picked La Fortuna to visit Mistico hanging bridges, the Waterfalls and the Children's Eternal Rain Forest. Bukala Village is located just a short drive out of town, giving it a much less touristy vibe. The property exceeded all of our expectations! Words cannot describe the beauty of the lush landscaping, pool, and private patio area. We booked home #2 with the private hot tub on the patio right next to the house. We spent much of our time on the patio watching all of the birds: toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and many others. Our son was enamored with the green basilisk lizards that lived on the property. One of the most unique lizards you'll ever see. (Google them, they're the lizards that can walk on water.)
Max was a wonderful host! He waited for us to check-in the first evening even though we were running a bit late. He helped us book a safari river tour and dinner reservations. We asked for a recommendation for our 35th wedding anniversary and we were delighted with our experience at Trevesia! Eat at this restaurant! It is upscale food at bargain prices! Thank you to Max for being such a hospitable host. We could not have asked for a better experience in La Fortuna.

We enjoyed our stay ten minutes from La Fortuna. Accommodations were nice, especially our individual hot tub. Property manager Max provided timely communications and was easy to reach. He gave excellent suggestions on where to eat and which hikes were best to see Arenal Volcano.

I can’t say enough about the accommodations and especially Max. He reached out weeks in advance to introduce himself and see if we wanted help with anything such as booking tours. I booked a couple things in advance. Only one I had to pay for. We had to delay our trip two days. I contacted Max and he took care of rescheduling our whitewater rafting and volcano hike. Everyday he checked in to see if we needed anything. He helped us with dinner reservations, tours and anything else we needed. Each day when we came back to the house it was cleaned, beds made, new towels, garbage etc. one day the towels were designed like swans kissing. Every morning I made coffee and would sit on the covered patio and listen and watch the birds, hummingbirds and lizards. The setting is awesome. We have twin 16 year old boys and they enjoyed the hot tub and pool daily. I wish our trip was not cut short because it was so good. Thank you again, Max!

6 of us stayed here while we visited the Arenal region. Really enjoyed the outside grounds and deck. House is well maintained and secure. Only drawback is distance from La Fortuna - a bit difficult to find after dark. Fortunately we had our own driver to take care of the driving.

Nice place that is about ten minutes from la fortuna. They keep the property very clean. There are four units that share the property including the pool but it was never inconvenient for our group of 7.

Close enough to all excursions and yet a perfect hideaway! This home was very clean, comfortable beds and all the amenities we needed. The grounds were clean and well kept. Plenty of space for five of us. My only complaint is I prefer a hot shower and the temperature was about body temperature. But, everyone else in the family was fine. Plenty of pressure. Felt safe and secure. Would highly recommend. The hot tub on the patio was perfect especially when the rain comes.

Beautiful place in rural area but close to la Fortuna
Max, our host, was fabulous. There is cleaning and fresh towels every other day. Loved the pool and deck. Although other units are right there you feel like you have a lot of privacy. There are beautiful plantings. Our adult children and granddaughter saw a Toucan as they walked up the dirt road outside of the unit! There is a creek that runs behind the unit and benches to sit and watch wild life. Great stay!

The backyard scenery was amazing. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and watching all the birds. The house was very clean and comfortable. Max was an excellent host. He greeted us with delicious pineapple smoothies and gave us lots of travel advice.

Nice place for our family of two adults and two teens. Max welcomed us warmly and connected with us on Whatsapp so he could answer any questions we had. Max has recommendations for tours and two sweet pups that we loved seeing. The place was nice and clean when we arrived, and we were impressed that they did housekeeping service after two days with fresh towels, emptied garbages, etc. We enjoyed the pool on site and the location that felt private but was a short drive from la Fortuna. We would stay here again!

Great Stay
Our stay in this rental was great!
The communication with Magdalena was good, she answered my questions and responded quickly. I was disappointed that the vrbo ad said that the first load of laundry was free, but just before our trip, I asked about this and found out it was actually a $20 charge for the first load. We managed, but would be nice to have updated online.
I also asked to check in early and the check in time on here is 2:30, but was told we could not check in until 3. We arrived in Costa Rica in the early morning and tried to take our time getting to our rental, got groceries already, etc. We still arrived early and Max let us right in.
Just before the trip I got a google link to the rental, it showed a rental just past Bukala Village, no address. We did not have internet/GPS on the way, we just printed out some maps on google to get here and figured we might see a sign or something when we got closer. We got to the gravel turnoff but couldn't find the rental. We found Casa Bukala, but couldn't find what seemed to be the one after it. Come to find out out, this is Bukala Village. Not a big deal, but when sending the link, maybe just specify this is Casa Bukala.
The rental/pool area and property were amazing!!! Tons of plants, fruit trees, humming birds, butterflys and and birds. We spend hours on our deck just watching.
We spent hours in the pool, over our 4 day stay, we found this to be a must during our May visit.
The villa was clean and modern, but yes, some fruit flies sneak through. It helps to keep fruit in the fridge, rinse wine/soda/beer cans before recycling, and keep up on the dishes, this helps a lot.
A hand towl and wash cloth would be nice to have in the kitchen, I like to clean up after cooking and this would probably help with the fruit flies too.
Max was great and we enjoyed seeing his dog Emily each morning, coming over to say hi! :)
This place is gorgeous and I highly recommend!

Personal Paradise in Costa Rica
One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed! The back deck looked out into a mini jungle of palms, bananas, and dozens of different flowers and plants. Saw green macaws on our first morning and an incredible array of colourful birds including several types of hummingbirds.
Manager Max was super helpful and friendly, booking a number of excursions for us and bringing fresh smoothies when we arrived. He was available by text/What’s App when we needed him and otherwise left us to do our thing.
The villa was very clean and well supplied. The only drawback was there is no AC in the main living areas (I understand it’s quite expensive to run in CR) but the pool was only steps away if you needed to cool off. All the bedrooms had AC units, so you at least knew you’d get a comfortable sleep. The complex was very quiet and we felt like had the whole place to ourselves.
A car is a must here, though some tour companies will send a bus to get you for excursions (extra $$).
The only small complaint was there were no lamps anywhere, just overhead lighting. Would be nice to have bedside lights for late reading but that was a small thing. A stronger fan for the living area would be good and we would have liked for the kitchen pass-through windows to close flush with the countertop. There’s a fair gap at the bottom and bugs in Costa Rica are HUGE!! Could have used some large bowls in the kitchen.
All minor stuff - I would give 5 stars for beauty and overall experience and I would definitely stay here again. A little piece of paradise!

Great mountain jungle basecamp
Our stay at Bukala Vilage was the perfect place to stay while exploring the La Fortuna area. The final kilometer to the property is a little challenging with it’s potholed groveled road. But no worse than many of the roads of the area. The 3 bedroom cottage was perfect for our group of 6 with plenty of room for the whole group. The outside deck area was the main gathering area with its beyond awesome view of the propertie’s garden area. The lush green grounds were indeed a showpiece in its self with many species of birds and butterflies to entertain us. The bedrooms could use a little more storage/closet space for clothes and personal items during ones stay as each room had only one small nightstand and only a ceiling light. The pool was always clean and welcoming after a day of exploring Lafortuna or the jungle sights. But, above all, the best part of this property was our host, Max. Max went well above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. Max was also a great source of information for sightseeing and eating ideas in town.

Perfect Location, Perfect Host!
Our first time to Costa Rica and first time using VRBO. Everything was fantastic. Location was great. Far enough from the main city to be quiet at night an definitely close enough to all the fun to be had in the area. This home is great. Everything you need for your stay. Max was absolutely wonderful and has tons of information about the area and activities. He can save you some money and book your activities too. Grounds and pool are lovely as well. We would not hesitate to stay here again in the future. Special thanks to Max for making our stay memorable.

Helpful, Friendly & Knowledgable
Staying with Max and his family was an extreme pleasure. The genuine warmth and hospitality was extremely noticeable. The house had everything we needed for a family of 5. The area of La Fortuna is amazingly gorgeous, with endless daily activities. The locals are friendly and proud of their town and attractions. Max helped with recommendations and bookings, which made for a smooth trip, with tons of fun !! We had a week of memories, and would return to Max’s property again and again and again. Mucho Gusto senor !!!!!

The property was beautiful. Clean and comfortable nestled in lush natural beauty!
This home was perfect for us! Max took good care of us! He even came and got us when a sloth was climbing a nearby tree on the property! The natural beauty of the area came right to our doorstep! Thanks again for being such fine a fine host Max!!

Beautiful Garden!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villas Bukala and highly recommend this property. We stayed in villa #2 which was well maintained and clean. We especially enjoyed the covered deck with its beautiful garden view. During the day it was fun to watch the hummingbirds visit the tropical flowers that surrounded us. In the evening we enjoyed listening to the nightlife from the deck and watching a few rain showers pass through. The family that owns and manages this property is very easy to work with. Magdalena was very professional and responsive with the reservation process and Max made us feel right at home when we checked in. Max even surprised us with pineapple smoothies upon our arrival! The dirt road leading to the property is a bit bumpy but it wasn’t a problem. We felt the secluded location away from the tourist area was well worth it. Pura Vida!

We loved our stay here.... clean, wonderful showers, AC in the bedrooms, beautiful surroundings. The only drawback was the bumpy dirt road leading up to the house. Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing!!!

Perfect peaceful getaway
This group of 4 private 3 bedroom villas is the perfect place for a quite and very peaceful getaway while in the Arsenal area of Costa Rica. We were 10 minutes from the town of La Fortuna where there are endless adventures to be had, more restaurants than you could explore Inc a month rang8n* from ver6 traditionallocal fate to Italian that would make you believe you were in the old country.
Max and Magdalena who run run the property were fantastic. Everything was at least as nice as I expected. If (or when) I come back to the area I don’t think I’ll waste a minute lookin* for another place to stay, this was such a perfect location for me - the type who would rather stay in a house and Ben a little more self sufficient that staying at a hotel or resort.

Gorgeous retreat
The Villas Bukalas were a perfect place to stay for our family of 5. Located not far outside of Fortuna, it was convenient, but away from the noise and bustle of the small town. The patio overlooks a beautifully landscaped garden, a raised pool, behind which sits a rushing river. It's gorgeous and peaceful. Moreover, the interiors are spacious, modern, and very clean. There are three bedrooms with four beds total, which was more than enough space for us. The bedrooms are efficiently air conditioned and the beds are super comfortable, making for a great night's sleep. The kitchen is large and fully functional; we made dinner at home twice while we were here and found everything we needed. We would recommend this place to anyone coming to this area. It's amazing.

Fantastic place to stay!!
We loved this villa. It is about 7 miles from La Fortuna. Easy with a rental car. It feels brand new. Beautiful gardens with a stream running through.
Best of all Is Max the manager. He was terrific at helping us with booking our local activities. (Hot springs, whitewater rafting, zip line canopy tour) It is totally apparent that he and his family take great pride in this place.
Magdalena, who handle the bookings was extremely helpful and friendly.

Beautiful, Peaceful location
Very beautiful property. New rental. Well-manicured yard. Peaceful and quiet location but not too far away La Fortuna or all the attractions. There were some basic necessities missing (probably because it is fairly new) but the owner was very attentive to our needs and was very accommodating to make sure that those items were taken care of.

We had a great stay at this property! It was a short drive from Fortuna but that is exactly what we wanted. We felt very safe and well taken care of. Plenty of room for our family of 5. Very close to the start of a lot of Costa Rica adventures!

Very New Property
The property is brand new and very stylish . Communication with the owner was quick and questions were answered quickly. At the property we were met by Darling, who let us in and cleaned the house daily and even left us fresh papaya and oranges. Very sweet!
The property is so new though, there are some basic details to be finished, such as, places to hang wet jackets and towels. There are no hangers, closets, dressers or even hooks to hang anything. There are no towel racks or hooks in the bathrooms either. Other basic details were missing in the kitchen such as wine glasses, and bottle openers, but these things are easily remedied.
It would be a great place for a large group (extended family or friends, etc), if you were able to book the 4 houses that made up the property and share the pool. It is on a pretty property with a creek running through the back and hammocks hanging in the trees.
The property was further from La Fortuna than we would have liked (about 15 minute drive) which seems far on a dark and rainy night if you want to go out for dinner in town. The plus side is it was very quiet, well maintained and pretty.

A little far from La Fortuna but WONDERFUL place for families!
My husband, I and our three daughters stayed in Villas Bukala and had a great time - the place is brand new with all modern conveniences (except washer and dryer - which look like they may be coming!). The grounds and pool are a bonus! And there is even an on-premises caretaker if you need anything during your stay! Magdelena was super friendly and helpful, both before our trip and during our stay! Besides for a washer/dryer, the only other thing I would suggest is a large ceiling fan in the common space (living room/dining room/kitchen) - since the A/C units are only in the bedrooms. There was a portable fan for us in there which helped alot!!
