Marc’s house was perfect! It was super cozy and comfortable, was in a great location and had a fabulous owner. My husband and I were there for a month and it felt like home. We couldn’t have imagined a better experience. Thank you Marc! We will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved our stay at Marc’s house not only because the interior design is close to what we are used to at our home. The level of attention to the details is unique, the house is nicely decorated and fully equipped including the kitchen for those who love cooking.
Location wise the house is in a nice area of Portland - some might not find it good enough, but we actually loved it. There are bars, restaurants and even a Powell outlet (book store).
Marc is a fantastic host, taking great care of his guests throughout the stay.

Great home and host, lock your doors!
We loved this house. It had everything we needed to feel comfortable for an extended stay. It is exactly as pictured. Really enjoyed the fact that there aren't TV's in every room.
We endured the smoke and Covid while staying here and with the central AC were very comfortable. Hawthorne is a really fun district with lots to do when not in quarantine, and even during quarantine we found great dining. Malka is a must try and Harlow was also fantastic. The noise is minimal at this house, even with the Fred Meyer caddy corner to the home. The big downfall is the amount of homeless people in the area. Make sure to lock your doors and remove valuables as both of our cars were ransacked. After three instances in 2 cars, we just didn't feel 100% secure. Certainly not the owners fault, but it impacted our stay.

Wonderful stay in beautifully furnished home
Marc is a super host.
He had many goodies waiting for us upon arrival, including fresh flowers.
He was very friendly, very helpful .
The kitchen was fully supplied with more than enough items one would need for cooking and serving.
House location in walking distance to library, Baghdad movie theater , grocery stores , restaurants, Powell’s bookstore and many shops .
I would definitely stay there again.

A small group of resident physicians and I had a wonderful time living in Portland for a month. We were attending a course at OHSU and found the location of this rental to be perfect. We rode our bikes to the university each day (20mins bike ride 10 min tram ride), spent our afternoons checking out Hawthorne street vintage shops, and spent our weekends venturing to the coast, wine country or to Mount Hood. We couldn't have picked a more central location to explore all that Portland has to offer. The house is perfectly laid out for a group of adults to share. The main floor has a large open concept living room, dinning room and kitchen as well as two bedrooms and a bathroom. We found the kitchen well equipped with everything you would need to cook dinner each night. The house also has AC which was paramount as we experienced a week long heat wave. Our host Marc made the the check in and check out process seamless. He answered our questions promptly and recommended some great local restaurants. We all wish we could have extended our stay indefinitely. Thanks for creating such a wonderful space we hope to return soon!

This house was perfect for our stay in Portland over the holidays. The open fully stocked kitchen was fun to cook in and the openness of the house allowed us to have the whole family over in comfort and style. The house is in a great location so close to both Hawthorn and Belmont. It is nice to have a grocery right across the street.
Marc is fantastic to work with and the house has everything that you ever need. I hope I get the chance to stay again in the future.

My husband and I just spent a few months in this charming flat and could not have had a better home away from home. Mark has thought of everything you could possibly need during your Portland stay and then generously provided it – including beautiful furnishings, comfortable beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a well-stocked bath, and books and pamphlets about the area. The flat is situated in a beautifully landscaped residential neighborhood but conveniently located within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, grocery stores, a movie theater, and magnificent Laurelhurst Park. Finally, Mark is a very accommodating and responsive host. We look forward to returning to this flat during our next stay in Portland!

My New Home in Portland--I Wish
Marc's home makes you feel as though you've lived here for a long time. The photos on the VRBO listing match what you see when you walk in. The home has plenty of room to prepare meals and eat at the long dining room table. He has supplied just about everything you could need to create them. Pots and pans in multiples, spices, oils, napkins, candles, hundreds of dishes and silverware, even TWO Bic candle lighters. He has thought of everything. The bathroom separates the two bedrooms, allowing for quiet. It has a large hot shower, with shampoo and conditioner in case you forgot some. The stairs to the upstairs rooms are near the front bedroom but only occasionally did I hear the other guests coming. The bed was comfortable, and felt relatively new. The porch and small enclosed patio area are meant for a cup of coffee, glass of wine or even an outdoor meal. Marc has maintained the home very well. Very very clean. I met a few neighbors as they were working in their yards on my walk to my daughters home.
Great restaurants nearby. Try the French food cart at Growlers. Get a bowl of French onion soup and a salad, bring it home. Then return the bowl the next day. Try a beer from the vendor selling over 50 beers. Or a smoked turkey leg. Chaing Mai for excellent Thai food. Chez Machin for soup and crepes. McMenamins @ the Bagdad Theatre for burgers. These are all within a two block radius--except Chaing Mai.
Fred Meyers is across the street. The parking lot has many trees, plus the trees at the house block the view. Never felt its presence. Not having a car, I used the buses and Uber. Easy payment set up with your phone for both. Rain prevented some plans, so we went to Powells on Hawthorne, Noun on Belmont. Or walked in it. Since my daughter has moved to Portland, I have stayed at 5 different VRBO locations. By far this home is number One. I would recommend this rental to friends and family. Marc left a few notes on the trash, the keyless entry way and the laundry. You won't need further instructions, as all has been taken care of. He provided his local number should you need it, which I didn't.
Oh he has an eclectic collection of artwork, which adds to the comfort. The front bedroom has an entire wall covered in reproductions of The Blue Boy, 1770, Dutch. (had to look it up) Yet I didn't notice them initially, as the door to the hallway opens in to partially cover it. Fun diversion.

Marc has thought of everything. The house is so well-equipped. Nothing is missing. Very comfortable, welcoming, tasteful. This was our second visit, and it feels like our Portland home away from home. We'll be back!

The location is excellent, a micro-walk to Portlandia culture/shopping at its best on Hawthorne street. Also plenty of dining and drinking establishments just a stones throw away. This home was so cozy, gorgeous, fashionably decorated, carefully stocked, and cleaned, we didn't want to leave it. The fireplace was heaven itself during our rainy chilly stay.

My wife and I rented Marc's two bedroom apartment for a month in September-October, 2015. We found the apartment to be spacious, clean and nicely (and creatively) decorated. The kitchen especially is excellent...large and very well-equipped. Each of the bedrooms is big enough to comfortably accommodate a couple.
The apartment's location couldn't be better: right across the way from a massive Fred Meyer supermarket, a short stroll to endless boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops on Hawthorne and Belmont, easy public transit access to pretty much anywhere in Portland.
Marc himself is great: friendly, helpful, responsive and...er...forgiving. (Sorry again, Marc, for accidentally decapitating the little Dutch-girl figurine.)
Highly recommended...definitely would stay there again.

Marc has thought of everything
This is one of the most comfortable and attractive places we've ever rented, and we're highly experienced travelers who have used VRBO often. The unit has great charm and character, and it's extremely well-equipped. We paid extra to rent the upstairs unit so we could have the house to ourselves. There's a lot of traffic in the neighborhood because of the Fred Meyer store catty-cornered to the property, but that's a minor issue. No traffic at all would make this place perfect.

Quite Handy
Very nice home and great proximity to shopping (Fred Meyer) diagonally across the block. Restaurants and shopping close by and easy access to various parts of town. Marc has all the amenities and a gift basket of goodies to greet you. He has written recommendations of where to eat and go. Spot on. The home is well decorated and not sparse like many homes. The kitchen is large with everything you could ever need. A great large dining table for a large family. Marc responded immediately to our only query. Having laundry facilities was a nice plus. The only possible issues for future travelers: 1) There is no dedicated parking for the residence but we were able to park relatively close by. 2) Multiple stairs to access both units but a nice inside foyer with push button locks. and 3) one rather small tv in the front room with limited cushy seating for unwinding at the end of the day. If you vacation like a pro you have fun till you get home and go right to bed and start up with coffee provided by Marc and then off you go again. Marc's place is great!

Wonderful stay
We stayed at this house for a couple of nights when we arrived in Portland. The house is beautiful. We arrived late at night with two small children, we were greeted with a basket of bottled water and snacks and warm cozy beds! Marc left written advice on all the good spots to hit in the SE, for shopping and eating. The house is in a fantastic location. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful!
My friend and I stayed at Marc's two bedroom flat for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. We had a car for part of the time, but you really don't need one. There are many shops and places to eat very close by (don't miss the Waffle Window and Blue Star Donuts), and the bus stop to go into downtown Portland is just two short blocks away. I was actually sad that there were so many great places to eat nearby as it didn't give us an opportunity to really make use of the well equipped kitchen. The flat itself is very comfortable with elegant decor. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch after a long day sightseeing, or on the front patio if it was dry. All Marc's replies were very prompt, the instructions at the flat very helpful, and the fresh flowers when we arrived very welcoming. Overall, it was a great place to stay, and will be the first place I look next time I'm back in Portland.

Wonderful!
My family just returned from a week's stay in this wonderful Portland residence. It was a terrific choice and we couldn't be more pleased. It is a beautiful home, well located and so comfortable. Marc, our host, was just so accommodating and pleasant and really worked hard to make our stay perfect. The rooms were large and light-filled, well decorated and comfortable. The location couldn't have been more perfect, with a large supermarket right across the street and many shops and restaurants within close walking distance. We celebrated Christmas there with our adult children who live in the area, and this rental home was just great with its spacious dining room and really well equipped kitchen. There is a smaller apartment on the second floor, and I have already talked to Marc about returning and renting both spaces for the whole family to be together. I would highly recommend this rental for any age group or family. Lovely!

Charming
My friend and I stayed at Marc's two bedroom flat in the Hawthorne district. It was very charming with a French flair in the decor. I loved the fact the rooms were bright, big and very clean. He had snacks, fruit and coffee, even cream. It was in walking distance of some awesome restaurants and lovely shops. We will be back since it's close to relatives and so charming. Thank you Marc.

Perfect neighborhood and home!
Marc's home on SE Main St is impeccably appointed. The kitchen is huge and has all amenities, including granite countertops and a large butcher block island with seating. The dining room is even bigger and made a great space for a family dinner. Both bedrooms are spacious, and plenty of linens are provided for comfortable sleeping and showering. In-home laundry was a bonus. The front porch and patio are beautiful, with with plenty of seating, a privacy fence, outdoor lighting, and flora. A big bonus for our group was the upstairs apartment, which can be rented as well. It is a one bedroom with a full bathroom and kitchen. We hosted some family friends up there and could conveniently share a car, a space, food, etc while also having fully separate spaces. The Hawthorne neighborhood location is unbeatable! Literally across the street is the Fred Meyer grocery/home store with everything you could need. Two blocks away is Hawthorne, which hosts a movie theatre/arcade, many boutiques (like Powell's Books), secondhand stores (Buffalo Exchange), and a wide variety of restaurants and coffee shops. A few blocks in the opposite direction is Belmont, which is similar to Hawthorne. Six blocks away is Sunnyside Park, which was great for our 3-year-old. The entire neighborhood is fully walkable, and just minutes drive across the river to downtown Portland. In all, you can't beat this property! We were highly impressed!

Lovely!
This beautiful apartment really is very comfortable and is tastefully furnished in a mixture of antiques and modern. The owner Marc thinks of loads of unexpected extras which included a mini hamper upon arrival and vases of fresh flowers in the living room and bedrooms. The property is conveniently located just a couple of blocks to the local shops, bars and restaurants on Hawthorne and just a quick bus ride into downtown. We would definitely stay here again!
Thanks Marc
