Ouvert toute l'année! Nichée entre les petites villes riveraines d'Alma et de Nelson, dans le Wisconsin, la Great River Retreat Guest House se trouve sur les backwaters du Mississippi. Ce qui était autrefois une cabane de jour sans eau courante ni électricité, a été entièrement rénové en 2013. Chaque détail a été pris en compte, depuis les planchers en bois grattés à la main, le plafond en pin scié brut Amish, les comptoirs en marbre en pierre naturelle, la véritable ardoise en pierre entourant le poêle à bois sur pied (là pour vous garder au chaud par une nuit fraîche), sur le pont blindé avec une vue imprenable sur les eaux calmes du Mississippi et les trains qui passent. Vous aurez l'impression de vous être échappé au paradis.
La cabine peut accueillir six personnes confortablement dans une chambre et un grand grenier. Profitez d'une vue incroyable lorsque le soleil se lève et se couche et regardez les pêcheurs et les skieurs nautiques faire des allers-retours pendant la journée. Vous aurez également accès à l'eau et à l'utilisation de notre quai pour pêcher, nager ou simplement vous détendre. Découvrez ce que c'est que de séjourner dans un endroit vraiment unique. We had sn amazing weekend between the great view of the river and the Eagle Center and shops in wabasha. Though it is set up for being able to make anything at the house, we hit some of the local restaurants. The sandwiches at Nelson Cheese Shop were the highlight.
There were about 30 bald eagles in Alma when we were there. There is also a Kwik Trip there which came in very handy.

We stay in numerous vacation rentals and we loved this place. Very clean, exceptional host and an absolutely beautiful place. My wife and myself had a great time on the water and in the home.

This was our second stay at this property. It is peaceful (except for the trains, which we like) and private. We got a pontoon and went out on the river for a full day. There are also some good day trip destinations from there. Ate at Nelson's 3 times, dining choices in the area are mostly your basic burger joint. Recommend this property.

We enjoyed our stay and thought the location was perfect to go both north and south on the River Road. The screened in porch overlooking the river was our favorite feature. We didn't get to use the dock because a train stayed on the tracks all 3 days we were there. We live near train tracks so are used to them, but yes,like the listing states the tracks (2 of them) are right outside the porch and used heavily throughout the day and night. Luckily the river view isn't obstructed too much as it's higher than the trains, and with the windows/door shut the sound can be muffled. Yes plan ahead and bring your own kitchen wares if you plan to cook.
All and all, cute place, good location and easy check in/check out. We would come back!

Was a great location to both attend our daughters graduation from Winona State and have a family fishing trip. It was only a 30 min drive to Winona and a much better option for us than a hotel stay. Super close to boat landing and places to eat. We had a great time utilizing the porch for cards and drinks and the sunset was SUPERIOR! We will be planning on staying here again!

Winona College Visit
Was a great location to both attend our daughters graduation from Winona State and have a family fishing trip. It was only a 30 min drive to Winona and a much better option for us than a hotel stay. Super close to boat landing and places to eat. We had a great time utilizing the porch for cards and drinks and the sunset was SUPERIOR! We will be planning on staying here again!

Awesome view
Had everything we needed. Favorite part of staying here was the view. There was a train parked on the track all weekend but the deck was high enough it didn’t obstruct the view of watching all the swans, ducks, geese and eagles. I would suggest bringing binoculars, but if you don’t it was enjoyable listening to all the birds. We hope to stay here again in the summer sometime.

Beautiful winter getaway
My husband and I stayed her in December looking to wind down after the craziness of the holidays. It was the perfect place to watch movies, play yahtzee, and look at the beautiful scenery.

We rented this for a weekend with friends and it was the perfect spot. We had plenty of space to sleep comfortably, and the pool table was a hit. There wasn't much of a yard as there is a gravel road running thru the property, but we were still able to set up lawn games (bean bags, frisbee, beer darts) and had a great time.

We were very grateful there was no one staying in the Huge Retreat house next door as we wanted privacy and it's a shared space! Porch on guest house really makes it! Fire flies biggest and most we have ever seen! You must like Trains as they go by all the time. Pleasantly surprised by the kyaks! But bring your own life vests! If you visit take a visit to Buenaventura Park! Gorgeous

Would be great in the summer
The house was beautiful but there were a lot of dead lady bugs everywhere, it was also at the bottom of a very strap hill which wouldn’t be a problem in summer but we went in the winter for our honeymoon and got stuck due to the snow. The owner was helpful and helped to clear the road so we could get out, but it was still a lot of added stress on our honeymoon.

Excellent place to get away from stress while still having comforts of home!
Clean, modern and comfortable. There was everything available that you might wish for: clean sheets, air conditioning, large tv, comfortable living room furniture, nice cooking appliances and more. The train tracks are right outside so it’s thrilling to watch them go by (sometimes a bit loud but tolerable). We would definitely recommend!

The four nights we spent at the cabin were delightful and just what we needed as a respite from the pandemic. The train traffic was an added bonus!

This property was all we hoped it would be. Beautiful scenery and lots to do in the area. I only wish I could have tied my boat up to the dock.
