We loved this location. We've stayed before in Kaanapali and Wailea, and this is so much more central to everything. Loved getting shave ice across the street. The condo was comfortable and had great views. Kids enjoyed the beach and the pool. Parking was easy. Two small negatives were we didn't love where the tv was situated in the family room, sort of blocking the views. And the rails on the stairs and upstairs bedroom are really far apart. Our 3-year-old kept sticking her head through. I'd be nervous with a younger child that they might fall, but as long as there aren't any crawling babies or toddlers it's fine.

This condo is right on a very swimmable and walkable beach, which can be tough to find in the area. The waves are almost perfect for little ones. We were pleasantly surprised. A bit north of the Kihei dining and shopping, but plenty accessible. The condo itself is well-appointed, two king beds in the rooms, and two full baths (one of the bedrooms is a loft, which was pretty cool for us, but may not be perfect for folks who can’t handle a spiral staircase). Property manager was great, checkin was a breeze, and the entire condo property was well-maintained. Was exactly what we needed, mahalo.

Though it is an older property, it is very well maintained, and its location right on Sugar Beach in a low-rise complex makes it a pleasant, relaxing alternative to the various high-rise properties on Maui. We had a lovely one-week stay here. Only drawback is that this location can get very windy in the afternoon.

My 3 and 4 star ratings are specifically the Unit E5. The unit is a bit outdated and has older dirty looking carpet. The unit has a newer sofa, comfy beds and a clean kitchen and bathrooms. We booked late and were unable to get a ground unit which is ideal with young kids. The property manager was very helpful and offered to reach out if anything became available. We had a short term issue with ants in the kitchen. This was our error because we left food out. The manager was very helpful and provided traps and gave us some pointers. It helped! We would highly recommend Ma'alaea Surf!

Accessing the pool and the beach was convenient too. Everything we needed was close enough and easy to get to. The particular unit we stayed in was definitely dated and in need of new carpet (the closet was very smelly), however, we were mainly outdoors anyways. Overall, I’d recommend this resort to other families looking for a quiet, beautiful place to stay!

This property was a last minute booking due to cancellation of our original property one day prior to arrival on Maui. You would think anything available last minute would be questionable but E5 exceeded our expectations. This condo was paradise. The lanai overlooks the beach and pool where you can wake up to the sound of waves and eat dinner to an ocean sunset. Kihei is laid back, calm and reflects the beauty of Maui. It is not commercial or resortish. Yes it is on the older side, but you cannot tell. There is central a/c, fans, the kitchen is fully stocked with all the housewares you need for your home away from home and towel service. They also provide beach chairs, sand shovels, and boogie boards, (no cooler). It is a close drive to local grocery stores, (even a target is a 15min drive), and a nice 5min walk to shaved ice. Malea the property manager is awesome, very attentive and great with communication. With our family of grand parents, parents and kids we all agree we want to make this property at the least, an annual trip.

We had a great time at the condo. Amazing views of the ocean and we enjoyed watching the members of the canoe club every morning racing. Sugar Beach was much quieter than the beaches in central Kihei, great for swimming and sun bathing. Short enjoyable walk to the best shave ice in Kihei. We will be back.

Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at this resort for over 35 years and this was the first time that we were not happy with the unit. It was clearly in need of repair and update. The carpets were worn and dirty, the upper shower was not working, the air conditioning was not working, was repaired but needed replacing and did not work properly the entire stay,the screen door was broken and off and one of the outside chairs was broken. There were 9 of us(family) with two units. The other unit f5 also had issues with toilet leaking and other smaller issues. We love the resort and will always return however will now be more selective regarding units selected. Location is fantastic and staff are friendly and helpful. I do not mind paying the higher rental fee for this fantastic location however will not continue if standard of upkeep and maintenance by owners is not consistent.

Some people came by and took a look, and said they would send a plumber out the next day. No one ever showed we had only 1 working shower all week for our entire family. Our unit E-5 was disgustingly dirty. Not only was it outdated, the carpet was beyond needing to be cleaned or replaced, the air conditioning didn't work well, the curtains were so rotted they had holes in them and the dust on the curtain rods was really bad. Also there was a short in the bathroom light that was scary. The only high point was that the kitchen had lots of useful gadgets, pots, pans, cookie sheets, and muffin pans. The laundry rooms were very clean!! And the machines worked really well. I would stay here again, but in a different unit.

Reviewer Comments: Ma'alaea Surf unit E5 is an upstairs unit with a bathroom and bedroom on the main floor and an open loft upstairs accessed via a spiral staircase to a with bed and bathroom. Overall the unit works fine for two couples or even a family. The downstairs bathroom has been redone, but nothing else in the unit. The fixtures are very outdated (didn't even want to use the stove) and the upstairs bathroom is very old. Needless to say, if you're not inside very much, it will do just fine. The outside lanai is big and has a nice view. The carpet is white and stained and very dirty. But again, if you're not there much, who cares?
