We arrived around 7p and noted the cabin was cold. We unpacked, made up the beds and called the landlord. She realized fairly quickly it wasn’t going to work that night and we were lucky that she had access to the cabin next to us. The inconvenience was having to unmake and remake the beds and had to move everything but at least we were in a warm cabin. The rest of the week was uneventful. Lovely place and very secluded.

This is our third stay. The first was in Cabin 5. This one and the previous one was in 4. We like everything about the place: the cabin, the people, and the lady that takes care of the place. As usual the cabin was well supplied and clean. The only improvement opportunity might involve the heating elements on the stove. Thanks for everything.

Everything about the property and location was great. We spent the week kayaking and since it was after labor day most of the motorboat traffic was over for the season. The cabin was clean and well appointed. Only minor downside to the property was the trash situation. Having a solution closer to the cabin would be preferable.

So peaceful and quiet with beautiful views.

Nice cabin. View was wonderful. Could use some updating new blinds etc but overall fine. Only real complaint was that blankets smelled strongly of dryer sheets and I’m really sensitive to that. They need to be aired out and little less next wash.

We enjoyed a long weekend - 3 nights with our son and daughter-in-law. The cabin was perfect for our needs. A secluded and quiet cove on the lake.

We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. The place was very clean and we were able to dock the boat we rented next to the dock for the property which was very convenient.

My wife, son and I stayed here for two nights. Very clean and comfortable. It rained most of the time but we made the best of it. My son thought kayaking in the rain was an “adventure” and I could not agree more ;-). Beautiful no matter the weather. I really like that this home is located in a “no wake” zone section of the lake. Perfect for paddling around. The host was excellent to deal with and made us feel welcome. We spent some time on the large deck when it wasn’t raining. Parking was a little tight but we managed just fine even with a large suv. Beds were very comfortable and linens were crisp and clean. We will definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

We enjoyed our stay and Susan was extremely responsive and helpful!
The property had a wonderful view of the lake, and was a very clean and inviting space. The dock would be great if you had your own Kayaks, paddle boards, floats etc to bring - we did not, so we really couldn’t use the dock other than a quick dip.
Things to note: The walk to get to the dock would prove challenging for many as it’s very steep and a bit uneven. There are no linens or towels provided - just be aware! The lock on the sliding door does not work which made things challenging with a 2 year old opening/shutting the door. We were able to park our Tahoe out front, but in order to do that, you have to turn around in an extremely tight area which is almost impossible if cars from the other cabins are parked there. The other thing to note is you have to take your own trash to the dump… I feel this is an extreme inconvenience when paying close to $300 a night. We had to go twice as there is nowhere to put a bag if full.
The place is a great option for those who want the seclusion, more rustic feel, and who may have their own water toys, and know the lake. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but next time, We would probably choose a location with more amenities within walking distance, included , washer and dryer, & does not require us to take our trash to the dump.

This was a really nice place. The cabin was comfortable and well-kept. The view from the dock was fantastic and so peaceful. The path to the dock was a little too steep for my elderly mother, but the steps make it easier to walk down. Sitting on the dock in the evenings was my favorite especially with the full moon rising over the mountain and listening to Whippoorwills calling.
Parking is a little tricky since there isn’t a driveway. It’s a very tight gravel road once leaving the pavement. A small vehicle can park against the bank across the road from the front door. I did manage to park my full-size truck there late the last night because I was leaving very early the next morning. The road is a dead end at the last cabin, and it is tight turning around in a full-size vehicle. There is a parking lot at the top of the hill before arriving at the cabin.
The area is beautiful. The community is in a wildlife preserve and is heavily forested. This made for an enjoyable early morning walk. I would definitely recommend this property.

The cabin was clean and cozy and well-set on the hillside overlooking the lake. The lake view and bird songs and deer sightings were the perfect recipe for resetting our focus on what’s important! Next time we’ll rent a boat and make better use of the available dock and water access! Definitely hope to return!

We really enjoyed our stay at Susan's cabin at Smith Mountain Lake - our first visit to this lake! The cabin itself is comfortable with all basic expectations met. Susan was kind enough to arrange for linens and towels at the last minute as I had not properly read instructions to bring them. She also allowed us to check in early upon request - we were grateful for that as post Covid it seems places have not reverted to a 3pm check in / 11 am check out, so the 4pm/10am is a bit tight as hard to get much of the arrival and departure days. We brought our hypoallergenic dog which was important to us, so it was good that the place was pet friendly - however, both my son and husband had issues with residual dog hair on bedspreads, son slept on the couch - this is something I had not considered before but is to be expected when we stay somewhere that we, others and homeowners bring dogs of all sorts. We had to carry out our trash to the dump which added 40 mins because it was in the wrong direction from our route home - I wish Cedar Key would allow residents to dispose of trash at a dumpster onsite - so another thing to be prepared for. (and double bag !). Also think about what food you may want to bring carefully, or stop when coming in as the closest grocery store is 20 mins away. Lastly, and I put in the heading - bring everything that you would need to enjoy the lake as the cabin is just the place you sleep. I brought two paddleboards of my own, was able to befriend a neighbor who let us borrow kayaks so we could actually enjoy time on the water as a family for four (renting from the nearest marina would not be possible for us to transport them and keep them at the cabin for a couple of days). I also brought a hammock to string up. I understand liability can be an issue for VRBO hosts but in the future I will seek properties whereby the entire "lake experience" is accessible and prioritized as part of the rental. This place is best suited for folks who are driving in and know the area and what they want to do at the lake/have all the stuff, etc.

Despite the terrible weather, we enjoyed our stay and got in some hikes. Our pups enjoyed tagging along and taking a swim in the lake!

We absolutely loves our stay at Cedar Key Cabin 4. Booking and check in was super smooth. Susan was responsive to messages quickly. The property was exactly as expected: quaint, cozy, and with AMAZING views. We spent a couple hours on the trails at Smith Mountain Lake park and rounded out the afternoon fishing from the deck. The deck was perfect for coffee, cocktails, woodpecker viewing, and grilling out. Bonus points that would could bring our fur child with us! We can’t wait to visit again in the fall!

We had a great time, the view of the lake is incredible, so nice to look out every morning and see the mist on the lake, birds in the trees, even saw a deer with full antlers swim across the lake.

This is our favorite spot on the lake. We have stayed in this cabin twice and love it! The only downside is having to bring our own sheets and towels, we wish those could be provided. But otherwise great stay.

Cabin 4 is super clean and comfortable with wonderful views of the lake in a quiet, no wake cove. The large balcony is perfect for having meals or relaxing and the shared dock accommodated our canoe easily. Our hostess, Susan M. is thoughtful and responsive and makes check in a breeze. This is our second trip to Cabin 4 and we plan to return.

Secluded hideaway on SML
Looking for a quiet spot on Smith Mountain Lake? It exists, and this is the place to go.
Tucked away in a rare no-wake cove, but near sweet boat rentals and great coves for water sports and/or chilling, this cabin offers a great lake life experience.
We swam and paddled right off the dock without the disruption of loud boat motors. We also rented a tritoon from Mitchell's Marina (about a 10 min drive or boat ride) and tied right up to the cabin's shared dock.
It's a rustic cabin experience that brought out some great family fun. We even found ourselves playing Catch Phrase late into the evening. I think we turned the TV on once for about 15 seconds.
There are about 50 steps down to the dock, so just be prepared for some heart-healthy trips back and forth. The cabin was exceptionally clean and the Charcoal grill was clutch.
We'll be back for sure.

A wonderful stay at Cedar Key
We had a wonderful time at our Cedar Key cabin. The views are spectacular in the cove. We will be back to enjoy SML. Thank you the the cleaning lady also for a great job.

Our second stay at the cabin and there will be more. All praise from us with one suggestion. It is unclear which steep walkway from cabin to water (one on left and the other on the right side of the house) actually is the correct one for the tenant to to use but both need to be repaired in the interest of safety.

Greet weekend at the lake
This rental was perfect for a family getaway to the lake. It was the perfect size and right on the water. Would definitely recommend!

The cabin itself was fine. Need to bring anything you need other than pots and dishes . Walk to dock was very steep and several steps were broken which made it very difficult to go up and down esp. with no rail. Parking was terrible. Only 1 car could park at house and road is small and difficult to turn around .
