Our group loved this property - it was great a great location for the activities we had planned. We were 3 couples traveling together and renting the ENTIRE home (including the downstairs area) worked out very well for us.

Family getaway
The property is as beautiful and comfortable as it appears in the pictures. Having the lower level all to himself was a treat for our teenage son.

We had a great family weekend getaway at this property. This was a last minute trip that we planned and we were grateful that we could bring our dogs with us! Check in was a simple process as the owner sent us a door code to enter the house on our arrival. The house was well maintained and had everything we needed. We loved spending time in the family room with the fireplace on. We spent one day snowboarding at nearby Suicide Six Ski area which was only 10 minutes away. Highly recommend if you're looking for a peaceful place to escape to!

Beautiful Home located on quiet Silver Lake
My family was very comfortable in the home. The kitchen was well equipped. The towels and linens were clean and fresh. We enjoyed the kayaks they had available for us to use. The Property Owner was very helpful and accessible. Instead of being out, we found excuses to stay in. It was not just a place to sleep, it was part of our Vermont experience.

Wonderful home on the lake! The house is beautiful, spacious, exactly as pictured – the downstairs apartment is also a great rental for singles or a couple (very roomy and a sauna). The home’s location on the lake and proximity to the general store make for a relaxing stay. We housed two families upstairs and one person in the downstairs apartment for our anniversary weekend (event wonderfully catered at the Barnard Inn up the road). All of our guests enjoyed Diane’s home immensely. Thank you Diane for being such a gracious host and sharing your lovely home with us!

Great views of lake
Great house in great location.

Peaceful heaven
The house is exactly what we want- lots of space to hang out, well equipped kitchen, and the direct/private access to the lake is superb. It's far away from activities (bowling, bars, etc.) but if you are content just sipping wines by the lake, jumping in the lake whenever you want, and having conversations with loved ones, this is the place to go.
One thing worth mentioning is that there is another apartment downstairs which is not mentioned in the posting. There are separate entrances but since the house is not sound-proof, it would be good to mention it in the posting so everyone is aware of the possibility of someone in the same property.

Lovely and peaceful. The stone fireplace completed the winter weekend
The ultimate location to relaxe and enjoy wintery Vermont. Warm and cozy by the fireplace while observing the ice fishing and other quiet activities happening on the frozen lake.

Farmhouse at Silver Lake - Barnard, VT
We loved the house and it had just about everything we needed for a great winter weekend getaway with our family. We weren't aware that there was an apartment below the main house that is also rented out - it wasn't a big issue as we really didn't cross paths with the other renters that weekend, we just didn't realize that based on the VRBO listing.
It's great house and a really pretty setting on Silver lake. We did some snowshoeing on the lake and went into Woodstock (about a 20-25 minute drive) for some walking around and "beverages". It was pretty cold though so we spent a lot of time hanging around the grand field stone fireplace ... and there was plenty of split wood for us! We could have used a couple more chairs so we could all site around the fire (there were six of us).
The owner (Diane) is very nice to work with and very accommodating for special needs/requests. I would definitely recommend the "Silver Lake Retreat" (you can google it) if you are looking for a quiet weekend away from it all on a nice pond, just know you might have some neighbors below. Thanks Diane for a great weekend.

Beautiful house in beautiful setting
The house is amazing, very cozy and homely decor and set up that made it a very comfortable stay. The kitchen had all the utensils necessary, and sitting by the fire each evening is always a delight. We were 6 adults and a two year old and there was plenty of space for us all. There is a corner store a couple of hundred meters down the road for any emergency food needs, and the setting by the lake is incredibly. It is a very quick drive to other local attractions so we were able to explore all that we wanted to in the area. Diane was very accommodating and reachable as well so absolutely no complaints!

Great place to relax
Nice place to stay with family or friends. Great open space on the lower floor to enjoy the lake view and stay warm around the fireplace. We had a unusually cold weekend in November that we relaxed around the fireplace.

Nice cottage on beautiful lake
We loved the quaint cottage and used it as a base camp to view fall foilage. Cottage could use some comfortable furniture but the overall experience was pleasant.

Lovely place for tiny wedding!
Our family had a lovely stay here over a January weekend. My husband and I got married in front of the cozy fireplace! We love old houses and this had all the charm and ambience we could ask for. Well equipped. We enjoyed a day in Woodstock and a visit to Billings Farm Museum. Had our wedding dinner at the Barnard Inn less than a mile down the road. Would love to come stay again in the summer when the lake is in full swing. What I love about this area is that it has managed to maintain all the old charm of my lovely state. If you are looking to for a quintessential Vermont experience, this would be the place to visit.

Peaceful and quiet with lots to do
We enjoyed our stay on Silver Lake in Barnard, VT. The property was clean and well maintained. I especially enjoyed walking to the nearby State Park and the General Store. Barnard is a very friendly community. The independent bookstore and the antique shops in Woodstock and Queechee were my favorite places to shop. Enjoyed seeing a show at the Barrette Center for the Arts in White River Junction. Hope to stay here again.

Cozy on Silver Lake
It was so serene looking out to Silver Lake in this very special Barnard Vermont property. We will have to return when we can get out on the lake. The house was larger than I imagined from the pictures. It was just my husband and I staying there but our Barnard family of four came visiting and for dinner and the amount of space was very nice.
The house has a lot of charm. There are family photographs and awards hung and on shelves. Such a scholarly, interesting family.. I felt smarter by osmosis.
Sure hope we can return. Thanks, Matteo.

Lovely lake front home with character
My husband's family has been vacationing on Silver Lake for over 20 years, but this was our first time renting this home. We had been admiring the house for years, as it looks so inviting from the road, so we were very excited to finally check out the interior. We were not disappointed! You can tell that this house has been well loved -- there is so much character. Our favorite part was checking out all of the family photographs and memorabilia. It's clear that the owners lived full and rich lives. Every day we found a new treasure to admire! The bedrooms are comfortable, there's one full and one half bath, the kitchen is fully stocked, and there were plenty of books, games and boating equipment. My husband and I stayed with his brother and sister-in-law, and the house was a very comfortable size for the four of us. We were a little nervous about staying with a long term renter in the apartment beneath us, but she was very polite and I don't think we bothered each other at all. We did not get the chance to meet Matteo in person, but he sent emails and text messages about things that were going on in the neighborhood, which was so thoughtful! He was also very professional in terms of replaying to queries promptly and our security deposit was returned with no trouble. We hope to stay here again next summer when we return to Barnard.

Lovely home on Silver Lake
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A beautiful, comfortable home with great views of the lake and easy access to hiking trails and general store. Plenty of room for 6 people and a very well equipped kitchen.

serene lakehouse with a beautiful view
the property was great. You have a magnificent view from the main room of the house overlooking the lake. The backyard slopes downhill to the lakeshore with plenty of space. there is a patio in the back with a fire pit stand and a small grill
You have access to a canoe and 2 kayaks and even a small sailboat.
The bedrooms were clean, and the kitchen had all the things you might need.
Of note- Matthew the owner stayed in the downstairs apartment attached to the house while we were there. Matthew was kind, helpful, and available if anything was needed.

Warm family home on beautiful Silver Lake
The house was wonderful, as described by Matteo. We loved the lived-in feel of the place, with family photos and memorabilia throughout the house. We used the grill and ample kitchen to cook big meals each morning and evening. The beds were comfortable for all 3 couples. Luckily the weather was cool enough in the evenings to leave the windows open and feel the night air. The kayaks and canoes were great fun, as was swimming in the lake. Matteo was an excellent host, informing us of local events, grocery and restaurant options, and more. The downstairs neighbor was friendly. We would certainly stay here again!
