We had lovely stay between Christmas and New Years. The cabin was decorated for the holidays, including personalized Christmas stockings for my three children filled with gifts. My kids are already asking when they can go back! The cabin is set back off the road leaving it very quiet, peaceful and secluded. John was very accommodating and the cabin is equipped with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay!

Very relaxing & peaceful spot. John was a gracious host & even called when we were late arriving to check on us. The house was well stocked & had so many amenities.

We enjoyed our stay and found the home to be very welcoming with lots of amenities. The home was clean and the kitchen was well stocked to meet our cooking needs. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace on the cold and rainy days. We would have used more of the outside amenities if the weather was better. We would definitely go back there.

My family and I had an amazing time for a nice weekend getaway at John’s cabin. The cabin was beautiful and very welcoming. There was everything you would need to have a comfortable stay. The lake side amenities made they stay even better. Spent the two days down by and on the water making family memories.

Although we planned to stay here to hike the AT and paddle, we ended up also biking on the local rail trail. The place was perfectly located. The nearby restaurants were great (Zucchini's & Proprietors). It was so relaxing by the water! The wild life was great, especially the bobcat. The kitchen was fully stocked and lots of extras. Great place to stay!

We just had a three night stay at this hidden gem. The house is absolutely adorable, well appointed, and welcoming. John the home owner, provided a plethora of information about the area. We travelled with our two boys (13 and 16) and a family friend, also 16. The property has plenty of indoor and outdoor space for everyone to find a relaxing place to settle in. None of us wanted to leave! We will certainly return, as soon as we possibly can! Thanks for this much needed vacation!!!

Excellent location with hiking/biking options as well as restaurants close by!
The outside space on a quiet section of lake was very nice! There was plenty of seating & hammocks, firepit and dining area. We spent most of our time there. The 3 kayaks and a canoe were fun too.
John Allen was responsive. The check in & out process was easy.
The house was clean and well stocked.
The only cons were: the only bathroom is IN the owner suite which required our friends to walk past our bed at night. And
no AC (in humid July sleeping was difficult, especiallyin the loft).

This house had everything we could need, and more, while on our Girl Scout adventure. It was clean, comfortable and FULLY equipped with games and movies, paddling/floating gear, outdoor cooking equipment and a great firepit for hanging out. Just up the road from the state park, just a paddle away from the main lake and within 45 minutes of ziplining, white water rafting and other adventures. Cozy like home. We had a wonderful time.

We loved our stay! Great, cozy, well maintained, cabin with lots of privacy. Our kids loved sleeping in the loft and had a blast playing into the shallow water by the dock.

We had a great time staying here. John was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The house was clean, the property was private, and the scenery was beautiful. I accidentally left my laptop and bag behind and John graciously offered to send it back UPS and had it in the mail immediately.
We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely small cabin on a quiet portion of Lake Pontoonsuc. Our adult family spent time here and enjoyed the lake activities and fire pit. The cabin is set back from the road but in a residential area. We met John on a few occasions (re: garbage pickup and a little issue with the internet we were unaware of) and host was cordial and welcoming. The only recommendation I would suggest is to have curtains or shades in the top of the very large windows in bathroom. (The photo in listing shows shades in top bathroom windows. ) The one bath in master bedroom is a little drawback if not renting with family. Cabin is well stocked and cozy with a large wood stove and pellet stove. We would recommend this to others looking for fun on quiet portion of lake but still close to residential area and shopping/restaurants nearby.

Most times you rent a place looking for a home base for day trips etc. while that is certainly possible here this place is able to be a getaway in and of itself. With kayaks, canoes, outdoor screen to watch movies, outdoor tent, fire pit, lawn (and board) games, multiple hammocks and a wonderful hang out area near fire pit. It’s restful in and of itself.
Site is located in a more secluded area of lake too so you feel like you have your own space, and get to watch wonderful wildlife up close. Our group included by two sons (under 10), husband, my mother (who is senior and appreciated the accessibility of the master bedroom, first floor living space and bathroom). Recommendation would be to install a grab rail to help with getting into and out of the tub (for those who might need it). Was a little disappointed that the outdoor gazebo wasn’t screened in like it had mentioned in the listing. But overall wonderful listing would recommend and hope to go back. Also, should be aware no ac but ceiling fans, other fans and air circulation was decent most of the time.
One of the loft beds is a little close to the slanted ceiling when getting out of bed headspace wise but our two sons slept in that bed so was fine. Truly enjoyed our stay, would recommend to others and hope to come back! John and his wife were great hosts and loved all the personal touches in the home. (Boys said was the best place we have stayed in :) )

When you stay here, it’s like you rented two properties - a quaint log cabin with everything you need, and a beautiful outdoor space - also with everything you need! A pretty short path (with lighting) takes you from the house to the lakeside, where there is an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, gorgeous large tent with huge top-quality air mattresses and its own gas fire pit with adirondak chairs, and multiple seating/dining options. Even more, there is the movie screen and projector, and three hammocks.
The section of lake is quiet, and attracts so much wildlife! We saw blue heron, many ducks, turtles, fish jumping, bald eagles, and much more!
The host John clearly loves this place, and it is evident everywhere you look…humming bird feeders, sculptures, there is always something happy and interesting to discover. John was extremely helpful, as well. I highly recommend this hidden gem!

John has a great home and our family had a blast. The kids made good use of the kayaks, the fire pit for smores and the outdoor movie set up. The house is very close to an ice cream spot with a great field of playsets. We visited it more than once during our stay. Overall, this house is a great spot for a family getaway.

We had such a lovely time here as a family. The house is great, spotless and has absolutely everything you could possibly ever need. The kitchen is really well stocked with more than just essentials. The location is just amazing. We used the canoe and the kayaks to paddle to an island in the big lake to go swimming. Idyllic! And if you plan to do a bit of work or have teenagers, the wifi is super fast! John was so helpful - he answered all our queries quickly

Our stay was peaceful and beautiful. If you are trying to get away and unplug it is perfect right on the water. Service was spotty and TV didn't really work but the view and activities local were pleasant. Owner was very nice and respectful to our needs. Would come again.

We are grateful for John’s flexibility with our stay and accommodating to our needs. We would definitely recommend this place!

Most relaxing vacation!
Everything about our stay was excellent. The cabin is beautiful and clean, and the host is quite hospitable. I could have spent forever sitting by the lake, watching turtles basking, or laying in the hammock with hummingbirds and woodpeckers ten feet away. The location is very private, and was quiet while we were there during the week.
We visited several of the state parks in the area, most of which are less than an hour away. We had a very long hike at Pittsfield State Forest (a 10-minute drive!), and the top of the mountain gave a gorgeous view of the Catskills! Later, we soothed our aching muscles in the jacuzzi/tub.
It’s minutes from downtown Pittsfield, so it’s easy to find a nice restaurant for dining in or taking out (Zucchini’s is Excellent!). The cabin, with its woods and lake, feels like it’s miles and miles away from any city.
I have already recommended this place to as many friends and family that I could, and we plan to stay again in the near future.

Just What We Needed
We spent 5 blissful days at John Allen's cabin, and it was just what we all needed. Canoeing on the beautiful lake as beavers swam alongside us, grilling our food by the lakefront and enjoying awesome movie nights as the moon rose over the water, reading lazily in the hammocks with dragonflies the only interruption, sound sleeping in the comfy beds, waking up to the songs of birds, afternoons playing boardgames...it was our third trip and we are already daydreaming about the next time we'll get to visit!

Pure heaven!
This is the perfect vacation spot for a couple or a small family. Has everything you could want… a secluded lake, kayaks and a canoe, full setup down by the lake for entertaining-even a projection system!, a very well stocked kitchen, games, movies and lots more! Nice location too - close to theater and restaurants and the best little ice cream spot. We’ve visited twice and plan to come back -maybe even yearly.

Lovely property, just as advertised, well appointed inside and out. We used the cabin as a home base to enjoy the Berkshires but also enjoyed a great paddle on the kayaks, and relaxing in the great outdoor space. Would highly recommend.

This place has everything you could ask for in a cabin with gorgeous lake access and views. It was our second time here and it's nice to see the add-ons the owner has made to what was already a spectacular place to begin with. The projector is a nice touch in the backyard by the BBQ area along with the tent. We will definitely come back.

We chose this home for its proximity to family and lakeside location but found so much more! The house itself is beautiful, clean, very well-equipped and surrounded by nature. Host John Allen is the most courteous, helpful and communicative host we have experienced; he is a delight. We were able to enjoy the lake using canoes and kayaks on a part of the lake that isn't buzzing with jet skis and motor boats and comfortably host friends and family members. And, if you are interested in the arts this location is perfect for easily visiting the numerous world-class museums. We loved having peace and quiet with easy access to everything we needed. It was a treat!

I stayed at John’s property during the Solid Sound Festival to have a home base that would double as a tranquil retreat. It was as advertised — enough space for my wife and I, kayaks for some morning paddling, and a lot of sitting under the stars in his dockside tent. Wonderful experience and convenient to our weekend at the shows in North Adams.
