Stanley, the host, was courteous and accommodating, even over a payment glitch that was entirely down to VRBO. Staying in the brownstone in Harlem gave us a much more direct experience of NYC living than any downtown hotel would have. As two white Scottish lassies in a black neighbourhood we had no problems, people were helpful and friendly. The apartment was warm, clean and comfortable. Would stay again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Stanley is an excellent host. Very clean and convenient to subway lines. The walk to the subway takes you through some areas with interesting characters and I would exercise caution after dark if alone, or take a taxi. I never felt unsafe personally.
Overall very happy with our experience.

The location was great and easily accessible to subway. Stanley was helpful and friendly.

My daughter and I enjoyed our five night stay! Less than a 10 minute walk from the B,C line which suited us well.
Felt like home. Safe neighborhood and very attentive host. We’d stay there again.

I stayed in Stanley’s property with my partner and my friend while visiting the city and had a wonderful time! Train stations were close by and we even jogged to Central Park one morning.

Stanley was very accomadating. His place was very clean. And the neighborhood was safe.

We enjoyed our stay in the pretty brownstone garden apartment. Stanley and Rosalinda have magazines and books stocked regarding Harlem proper, NYC and more along with coffee, milk, juice, cookies and everything we needed. Everything worked great and bed was beyond the best we ever slept on before!! The host is informative, polite, accommodating and just very helpful. We highly recommend this property.

We had a fantastic stay at this brownstone property. Stanley was very attentive throughout the booking process and our stay, very helpful. The croissants, fruit juice, tea, coffee & milk were very welcome too. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed exploring Harlem and it was an ideal base for visiting NYC. Highly recommended.

Was a graduation trip for my son and his cousin decided to go after we had booked. Did not pay attention to occupant limit so that's on me. Brought an air mattress and extra towels, did not mean to inconvenience anyone. Would have been willing to pay extra but didn't really seem to be what property owner wanted so we found other accommodations. Seemed like a nice home. Stanley refunded our money even though it was past the deadline so that was appreciated.

Centrally located with good access to MTA. The most hospitable host, with recommendations for food, music & transportation.

I stayed for 8 nights with my adult son and daughter. We drove and parked on the street the entire time and took the subway everywhere. It worked out great! We explored the city and came back to our peaceful brownstone to relax after navigating the subway system and walking our legs off. Stanley was very hospitable and answered my texts promptly if I had any questions. He provided croissants, water and juice upon arrival and even surprised us with chocolate chip cookies one evening! Stanly also arranged for us to send out our laundry half-way through our stay which was extremely convenient. Stanley was also a pleasure to chat with!
Would love to stay here again on a future trip to the Big Apple!

My adult daughter and I stayed at Stanley and Rosalinda's place for 4 nights.
Stanley was an excellent host, helpful and kind and attentive to our needs.
Location was close to transportation to City Central and there are lots of stores and restaurants in the area.
We were visiting from Canada and were very happy to be living in a diverse cultural area in New York.
The apartment was very clean and we had lots of living space that was private and well appointed.
Stanley shared lots of useful information about the area we were living in and that was helpful and informative for us.
We highly recommend this apartment to all interested visitors.
VRBO booking was simple and uncomplicated.

We had an amazing time at Stanley's place, we are a family of 4, the flat is well equiped, very clean and in a very quiet street.
The subway is 8mim walk, and supermarkets are 1min walk.
We definitely recommend Stanley's place. We spent an amazing week.

Stanley was a great host who reached out ahead of time and stayed in touch while we were there. Very comfy apt for our family of 4–our two teens fine on the single beds in the living room, the master bed and linens were lovely, and the kitchen had all we needed. Good Sunday night jazz at the American Legion a few doors down, and the Apollo is very close. Local food and groceries were also helpful. Thank you, Stanley!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time in NYC staying in Stanley's brownstone! All the necessities are close: hot food, grocery, subway stations, parks. The building itself is beautiful. Feels like you are staying in history. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We were out late almost every night and never felt unsafe. So grateful for the opportunity to explore NYC.

This apartment was home base for our week long trip to NYC. The apartment is well represented by the pictures provided in the listing. It is within a few blocks of numerous subway lines, and the bus heading downtown stops at the end of the block. Our host, Stanley, welcomed us (even though our plane was an hour late) and showed us how the keys worked, which was great. He is a great guy, with knowledge of the neighborhood and lots of interesting books on Harlem.
I would stay here again. That being said, I think a small investment of blackout shades for the front room, a couple comfortable chairs, and a newer refrigerator would make this apartment so much nicer. The refrigerator was loud when it cycled on and off through the night, and woke up the 2 people sleeping in that room. It worked great, but it is noisy!
We had all the towels we needed, coffee and pastries waiting for our first morning, and the kitchen was easy to use. The bedroom and bed were spacious and comfortable.
As a bonus, their cat is adorable and friendly!

We had a wonderful experience during our stay in this cute apartment in a historic brownstone. Stanley was a welcoming, helpful host and very knowledgeable about the area. The subway is just 10 minutes away and the walk to and from is on or close to busy streets. We (a group of 3 women) came back around 11 pm a couple of nights and didn’t have any issues. The location is only a few stops from the Natural History Museum/Central Park and is 10 stops from Times Square. The apartment had everything we needed, including delicious croissants.

The place was super clean even though it is an older building. The floors are hardwood the kitchen had what we needed. Lots of hot water in the shower. Bed was great. Daybed worked perfect too. Stanley was super friendly. About a 10 min walk to a few subway stations. We took the subway daily and it was easy to navigate. Felt safe in the neighbourhood walking too and from.
If you don’t mind staying a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan this is perfect. It was nice to come back at the end of the evening and relax in the quiet.

Love this place. Stanley is a wonderful host and a great communicator. He is a font of information about the neighborhood.

My daughters and I spent Thanksgiving week in NYC and stayed at this property. Stanley was a wonderful host - accessible, enjoyable to visit with, knowledgeable of the area, and he went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The kitchen had everything we needed and the hot water in the shower was plentiful. The location was convenient to both bus and subway stops, as well as groceries, pharmacies, and small restaurants. It was nice to “come home” to the quiet neighborhood each evening after all the noise and bustle of midtown. Would certainly consider staying again on future trips to NYC.

I came into the city for the NYC marathon and was really happy with the apartment. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. I slept really well which was important to the marathon. Check in was really easy. Stanley was there to show me the place and tell me a little bit about the area. He is super friendly and was super helpful. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans for those of you who want to cook. I cooked just about everyday and never had an issue. There is a grocery store at the end of the block which was convenient. It has everything you need, but its not a big store. There is a Whole Food not to far away if you need something special. It was really easy to get around the city from the apartment. I took the subway to get around the city and there are two subway stops within walking distance. There are also a few bus stops too if you need to take a bus. I did to get to LaGuardia. The M60 stop is right by one of the subway stops (125th St) so really easy to get to and from LaGuardia. JFK is also easy (came into NYC at JFK) to get to and from by the subway. Overall this is a great place to stay and will look it up again when I come back to NYC.

This apartment makes a wonderful base especially for those wanting to do walking tours of Harlem. Stanley has provided many books of Harlem history to inspire. He also provided the New Yorker and various art magazines. The only thing I would recommend for a longer stay (we stayed 4 nights) would be that he replace the full master bed with a queen.

My daughter and I came to visit Barnard/Columbia. This rental was within walking distance to the campus. We also spent time in the East village, midtown and Greenwich village, and were easily able to navigate the metro to travel from area to area.

The apartment was perfect for our needs. We mostly used it as a place to sleep and regroup for our next outing. We had family nearby so we didn't need/use the kitchen. We could walk to the family's home so it was perfect.

Just spent a week in this charming brownstone and we thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood and the place. Stanley is a wonderful host - thoughtful, attentive to detail, and accommodating of our late arrival. The information he has put together on the neighborhood history, restaurants, and sights, plus details about stores, getting around, etc was very comprehensive. Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay. Thank you Stanley!

Stanley is a superhost! Beautiful suite, comfortable beds, great kitchen, easy access to multiple subway stations. Stanley took
The time to inform us about the neighbourhood and local sites in a non-obtrusive way. We’d recommend this place in a New York minute!

My fiancé and I really enjoyed this Harlem hideaway. The host was responsive to our needs and even offered us croissants and orange juice at check in! The space was perfect for two love birds on vacation together! I would highly recommend it.

I have stayed several times in this lovely apartment which is quite spacious and surprisingly quiet being set in a residential street between two busy avenues. Several subway lines and bus routes are within a few minutes walk. A well stocked supermarket is only 2 minutes walk away. The owner, Stanley, is absolutely lovely and is always on hand to help. If you're really lucky you will get to meet Mercury the cat who lives with Stanley and his family upstairs!

My husband and I, along with our two teenage daughters, really enjoyed our stay. We found a delicious Ethiopian restaurant to eat at just a few blocks away. The apartment was ideally located several blocks from two different subway stops. Using google maps was very simple to navigate our way into the city using the subway. We were only a few stops from Yankee Stadium and it was no problem heading into the city each day of our stay. The apartment was perfect, allowing us space to eat breakfast and relax each evening after a full day of being tourists. We also found the parking garage just a block down the road to work out perfect for our car which we needed for the rest of our vacation plans. The property manager was great and we enjoyed our interactions with him. Thanks for a great NYC experience!

Location was great. Nice neighborhood. Very clean apartment. It was perfect for the three of us!

We stayed 6 nights at this rental for a girls trip to NYC. There were 3 of us and we had plenty of space in this unit. Beds were all comfortable and the unit was very clean.
Stanley was a very welcoming and attentive host. As far as safety, we felt safe in the unit. We didn’t venture too far off the block and only during daytime, but we felt comfortable when we did.
I would recommend this rental. You certainly can’t beat the value!

The property was great and Stanley the host was charming and informative. Everything was spotless, the bed was comfortable and the location was great. Close to everything Harlem has to offer. There was a folder in the apartment with lots of restaurant and sightseeing suggestions that we used a lot. There was a subway map in the bathroom (the shower curtain) that we also used a lot. The only "downsides" - the internet was sometimes a bit spotty (it was definitely better in the living room than the bedroom) and the fridge is on it's last legs so was quite noisy. Overall though, this didn't deter from a fabulous stay.

This was a very comfortable, friendly neighborhood with great access to subways and restaurants. We had a very pleasant experience. Thank you, Stanley.

The location of the brownstone was fairly convenient, a 5-10 minute walk to one of 4 nearby subway stations. The bed was comfortable, although as one guest noted, we are used to something larger than a full. The couch is a day bed, which was a little uncomfortable for relaxing after a day in the city. The kitchen could use some upgrades, but was functional.
The neighborhood was quiet, and restaurants and shops fairly close. Stanley was a responsive host, and accommodating, allowing us to check in a little early. He also stocked the fridge with milk and OJ for our arrival, which was a nice gesture.

Overall, we were pleased with our accommodations. The apartment was as described. I was surprised there was no couch in the living room, but when I looked back at pictures on VRBO, there wasn't one, so that was my fault. With the space, the owners have chosen instead to have a daybed in the living room with a twin bed underneath that can be pulled out. That makes sense so they can make the most of sleeping space. Knowing that we were going to have a friend spend the night, the owner, without our requesting it, kindly pulled out the twin bed and had it made up for us. The double bed in the master, the daybed, and the pull out twin bed were comfortable.
A pleasant surprise was how quiet this VRBO was at night. I am a light sleeper and bring a white noise maker with me on trips. I didn't have to use it at all.
One reason I chose this VRBO was because of reviews saying how safe the area was. Our block did feel safe, but I would not have felt comfortable venturing out too far past it by myself. With my husband, it was fine.
The VRBO was very convenient. In particular, we frequented a grocery store and a convenient store that were right at the end of the block. Restaurants were also close by.
If you want to know about history of the area and things to do/see, Stan has organized a notebook full of information which he goes over when you check in. We weren't here on a tourist trip but rather a short trip to visit our daughter, BUT if we had been here as tourists, that would have been very helpful. The only suggestion I would have is that Stan ask if you have time or would like for him to go over that information when you check in or just point you to the book if not.
The only other suggestion I have is that there be written check-out procedures. The night before we left I texted Stan and told him we would leave at 11am so please forward check-out instructions. He said he'd be down (he lives upstairs) at 10:30 to go over things. It wasn't a big deal, just my preference to know ahead of time what is expected and be able to get up, do it, and head out. When Stan did come down, he tested stuff, so it could be he does check-out in person to address any issues while the renters are still there.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the VRBO was well worth the cost. Stan was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. If there were any issues, I feel they would have been addressed immediately via a text or phone call to Stan.

Stanley was an attentive and helpful host. His neighbors were kind and friendly. The apartment was charming and warm with a very comfy bed. Very accessible with only 3 steps down.
We enjoyed Renaissance, a local restaurant. Very friendly and great food. Access to public transport is anywhere from a10- 25 minute walk.
