I stayed at this wonderful property in Mill Valley for eight nights. This beautiful, tree-covered cottage painted the perfect picture of the relaxing vacation I was looking for in Marin. The cottage was clean, well-equipped with everything I needed, and the views were gorgeous and the setting very serene. Marianne is an absolutely great host! I had the opportunity to get to know Marianne, her husband, and her sweet dog, Buster. She is extremely knowledgeable about Mill Valley whether it’s which hikes to take or general information about Mill Valley/ Marin/ San Francisco. Her sincerity is genuine, her sense of humor always put a smile on my face, and her ability to provide a comfortable home away from home was right on target. Marianne truly makes for the best kind of VRBO host, which is important to me, along with staying in a vacation home that exceeds its online description. I loved my stay at this property and would have extended my dates if I didn’t have to return to life in Colorado.

Our experience echoes that in the reviews of previous guests! We have rented a variety of vacation get-aways. Like our two properties in Michigan, there are pros and cons to every place. This review adds information that we don't believe is online, along with the most memorable aspects of our stay. Mountainside neighborhoods surround Mill Valley. The roads are steep, curvy, narrow and shared by parked cars, bicyclists, pedestrians and residents who likely drive faster than you. If you aren't used to a "driveway" like this one, we suggest two things: 1) be cautious and stay as far right as possible, and 2) on the descent, if unsure at a fork whether to go to the right or left - we're quite sure left is always it. Check with Marianne to make sure we're right. We work with people with disabilities. Note that there are several steps outdoors. Inside, a narrow metal spiral staircase connects the two levels. It's possible to use the exterior steps instead of the spiral staircase. The bedroom and bath is on the lower level. The double bed is a sleeping loft accessed by a ladder. We will long remember... - Marianne's hospitality, knowledge, friendliness, attention to safety, and quick communications. - Fabulous accommodations stocked with everything we might need; sunrise/sunset from the decks. -A comfortable setting close to shopping, the seashore, and all the sights. This is a cozy Mill Valley accommodation! Book it!

This immaculately kept house with two floors, two full bathrooms and two decks is JUST 20 minutes away from the city! Surrounded by nature with views of the city, It can’t get any better. You also have access to trails that can’t take you all the way to the top of Mt Tam or bring your gravel/mountain bike and ride up the fire roads. Couldn’t have asked for a better host experience either. Marianne and Art were delightful. And of course, Buster the dog was the cherry on top. Lovely view and a sweet cottage with lovely touches like fresh flowers. It is a tricky drive up a long hill to get to town but it was fun to be within walking distance to hiking trails. Marianne is very responsive.

We loved our stay at Marianne's special cottage. Near the top of Summit Drive (WOW!) and beautifully nestled among the trees at the top of Mill Valley, our stay was wonderf-FULL. Marianne is a terrific host; responsive and available as needed. And the property is just perfect - everything we needed!!

The place was absolutely beautiful! My husband and I wanted a special place to escape our hectic lives for a few days that was peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by nature. It was exactly this. We love to hike and the trailhead was a short little walk right out the front door. Driving into such a sweet little town was a few minutes a way and San Francisco was less than 30 minutes too. Marianne (our host) was awesome! She was very friendly and helpful. It was a perfect getaway that brings a smile as I think often about the peace it brought staying in this lovely home. I absolutely would recommend and hope to return soon!

My adult daughter and I do regular trips to the Bay Area and are repeat lucky guests of Marianne. Have recommended this most lovely and comfortable place to many. Plus, the setting and view is more than fabulous.

My wife and I stayed in this lovely spot for a few days in February/March. We were looking for a beautiful, serene location close to SF and all of our expectations were exceeded. We were able to hike up from the property to see SF and the bay in the distance, and also had a great time exploring Rodeo Beach and Muir Woods. The unit had all of the amenities we were looking for and we were very comfortable. Marianne was helpful and friendly. Overall, it’s a gorgeous place to getaway with plenty of access to the town of Mill Valley, SF and beyond.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely cabin for the weekend and it was a tranquil experience. It is beautiful and peaceful, and has so many areas to relax! The host was responsive and welcoming without being intrusive. Would love to come back for a longer stay. Thank you!

This lovely cottage reminded us of several visits to cloud forests in Central and South America. The views are spectacular, and the accommodation is beautifully appointed and comfortable. Without a doubt one of the best VRBO stays we have experienced. Five stars for the Mill Valley Cottage!

This is a quaint cottage on the side of the mountain with beautiful views from all windows in the back of the cottage. I would wake up every morning to a wonderful sunrise that would take my breath away! As I was reading my book I looked out the window and saw hummingbirds flying around the property. If you like to hike then this is the place for you. I went on a 3 hour walk/hike in the area. Also, Mill Valley Village is very charming to walk around and shop and get a bite to eat. Overall, a wonderful experience!!

Awesome place with an awesome view and host that are friendly & helpful. Highly recommended!! Close to town. Stay here if its available!

Marianne’s place was perfect with its breathtaking views, secluded location and comfortable accommodations. We couldn’t have picked a better spot outside the city. I would definitely recommend it.

From the instant we arrived, we were welcomed and made to feel at ease. The property and cottage truly stunning, well-appointed, yet also extremely comfortable with everything we needed. Bonus: Property owners’ adorable dog Buster, is a love and welcomed us with a wagging tail and a happy calming presence. Marianne, our host, could not have been more gracious and unassuming. This was a birthday gift/getaway for me from my fiancé and a chance to breathe two months prior to our actual wedding. Comfortable bed, fresh air, terrific kitchen & breakfast nook with deck; windows looking out into the redwoods and beyond to the bay. Extremely cozy, well appointed with high end linens, cozy couches, gorgeous solid wood floors, lovely bathrooms on both levels; every detail thought out. The views, fresh air and privacy and comfort make this a week to remember. We thank you for having us and hope to return, especially at this gorgeous time of year.

My husband and I came to California on a business/personal trip. We spent the first half on business but decided we needed to unwind the second half. This was the perfect spot to catch our breath and take in the beauty of Mt. Tamalpais and the surrounding area! Our hosts were delightful with lots of information to help us explore. The unit was well stocked, clean, beautiful and comfortable. Everything we needed and then some. Their dog, Buster, was sweet and not an issue at all. The spiral staircase to the bedroom was a challenge for me but there was another outside access so no problem there. Our hosts were super friendly and we had a blast winding up and down the road, even meeting a large buck one night on our ride home! We felt very safe and secluded in this area and would highly recommend this unit for your next vacation. Colleen & Mike

My niece came to visit from Bologna Italy and wanted to see San Francisco. Wanting something special i found this beautiful place! The owners were helpful and kind and the place was beautiful, clean and perfect! I hope to return with my daughter!

Crickets, Humming Birds and Hoot Owls... A very peaceful and comfortable cottage nestled on the mountain side.

This is a total gem! We loved how cozy it was, and how beautiful the view from the deck is. Kitchen was well-equipped. We also loved that it's only 10 minutes outside of the Mill Valley town center, where we were able to go grocery shopping and enjoy great meals. There were even a few pleasant surprises that we didn't expect, like heated floors in the bathrooms, a table with chairs and a wide umbrella on the deck, and a stunning array of potted succulents on the deck. We didn't realize that this is a secondary house right next to the owners' house, but that's okay because we weren't looking for complete and total isolation/privacy. It actually came in handy when the hosts were able to walk over a can opener! We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Marianne and Art!

As we stepped into this beautiful Mill Valley home sitting high up in the mountains, we were immediately struck by the breathtaking views from every window. Early mornings provided the hazy fog the Bay Area is known for. As the day wore on & the fog began to lift you witnessed the loveliest of views. The comfort & convenience of everything you will need for your stay is at your fingertips. The owner was welcoming, warm & friendly, showing you all the things you might need. Fresh flowers greeted us in every room. The furnishings were so comfortable, from the TV/reading room to the kitchen to the living room & onto the bedroom. The king size bed swallows you up each night into a warm cocoon that you really don’t want to be removed from come morning. The kitchen provided filtered water, spices & other surprises while the upper & lower decks had comfortable furnishings that made you want to grab your coffee or glass of wine & just sit there amazed at the view & the beauty of your vacation home. Don’t think I’ve ever experienced the heaven of a heated bathroom floor - delightful! Even though we had a daily list of all that we wanted to see/do while visiting Mill Valley & the San Francisco area, we would find ourselves thinking okay enough for this day, let’s just go back to our beautiful home, sit on the deck & read/relax - and we did. What a perfect stay!

This property is really nice. View is amazing, especially if you walk up the hill (you can see all the way to downtown). Mill valley is also a quaint little town with pretty close access to Muir Woods and Sonoma. I took off a star for three reasons. First, the spiral staircase is really narrow and a bit steep. However, you can take suitcases up and down via the outdoor staircase, so that helps. Second, the drive up is kind of like the spiral staircase…narrow and winding. You will be rewarded with a great view, but if that bothers you just be aware. Third, the beds are a bit hard. A topper would really help. But overall I would stay there again. And if you don’t have any mobility/car sick issues don’t hesitate.

Vacationing can be tough but Marianne’s house made it feel like it was your own home! Clean, comfortable bed and pillows, great little kitchen to make fresh coffee and breakfast, beautiful deck for amazing views. Two full updated bathrooms, living room to watch TV, plenty of space to relax, and parking! Great location to visit Muir Woods, Sausalito, and feel like a local in Mill Valley. Our Mill Valley stay exceeded our expectations. The property is larger than we thought and so convenient to hiking Mt. Tam and getting around the Bay Area. Owners are friendly and accomodating, yet respective of privacy. We would LOVE to return sometime.

Enjoyed 3 excellent days here. We were warmly welcomed and the cottage was perfect. Buster the dog was a real treat. Marianne went the extra distance and mailed the gear I accidentally left behind. Mill Valley has a warm distinctive vibe that is a real joy. We really enjoyed the locals, the good food and great hiking. We’ll make a point to return.

This beautiful property is nestled at the top of Mt Tam, surrounded by hills, trees and wildlife. I started the mornings with coffee and yoga on the deck as the sun was coming up, and ended with sunset views of the Bay. Just a completely serene setting. The cottage is very well-loved and has great charm, really representing a classic, down-to-earth, but yet classy Mill Valley vibe. I took hikes all the way up the Mt on the nearby trails, and enjoyed walks down to downtown for coffee and meals with friends. Just an overall lovely place to stay with very kind hosts! Already looking forward to my next visit.

A lovely, calming hillside retreat, one rich in aesthetic detail & ambiance. Quiet, restful. And yet it's only a ten-minute drive to the shops, cafes, and restaurants to be found in Mill Valley town center. As a host, Marianne provided a gracious, in-person welcome. An especially comfortable bed & bedroom. The deck – with views across the valley & beyond – was a favorite place. As was the library at the front of the cottage: perfect for morning reading, while occasionally reaching for the china teacup, set on the marble-top end table. Care, thought, and an artistic eye have combined to make this among the most memorable of my VRBO rentals. Highly recommended.
