Wow! I had such an incredible experience at Best Hostel. I am a solo female traveler and felt safe and right at home for my first few days arriving in Nepal. I arrived at the end of April before monsoon season and the weather was perfect. Not too hot, not cold. I stayed for two nights and got to explore Lazimpat and the downtown areas of Kathmandu from this lovely home base. The hostel provides a quieter reclusive alternative to the busyness of touristy Thamel areas. Quiet romantic winding roads laced with local variety stores and a sprinkling of small cafes nearer to the main road made wandering a joy. Taxis closer to the famous squares are about 300-400 NR. The room was simple and comfortable and I opted to pay a little extra for the in-room bathroom. The bed was quite comfortable- the most comfortable I’ve experienced since traveling these few months! Sunny and his family coordinated a taxi pickup from the airport for me and we chatted like old friends from the moment I arrived. I flew in from India and was tired after a long travel day- I was met with milk tea and gracious caring humans who were there to answer my questions and help book trekking. Their friend came to chat with me and answer my many questions about trekking options. The family here met me with so much kindness and friendship during my stay- helping me out by driving me to a computer repair shop when my MacBook stopped working and asking how they may best support me in many ways. Vishnu, Sunny, Krishna, Santoshi and her mother are incredible humans and make delicious dal bhat, omelets and more! They’re a full restaurant with beer, tea, sodas, bar etc. I highly recommend if you’re looking for something simple, affordable, a stones throw away from busy Thamel, a family homestay feel and to chat and become friends with the local Nepali hosts. Very nice staff, welcoming and helpful. The place is quiet and has a nice garden to sit. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable.

We had a wonderful time at Sunny‘s Best Hostel! Everything was really nice: the room was clean, the food delicious and the staff was so friendly and helpful! Hopefully, we will visit again and we totally recommend the accommodation to everyone.

Nice and quiet neighborhood, good place to stay if you want to be a bit more out of the center. Easy 30 min walk to Thamel. Staff is super friendly and food is amazing!

Very friendly and helpful young lady at reception.

Both nights and both early mornings were very noisy, mostly due to other guests, slamming doors, shouting, trampling up and down the stairs.
They even smoked inside the hostel, very disrespectful.
There were also loud noises from the nearby buildings (schools, etc.).
You have to ask for hot water each time before showering.
The first day this worked fine, the second day the water was only barely lukewarm, even after some waiting time.
Location is far from sights, pollution is generally horrible in Kathmandu, so walking around the area is not a nice option.
Sunny, the manager (?), offered us airport transfer for 20 USD when he whatsapped us!!!
This is a crazy price, it's only 6km from the hostel to the airport.
We found a taxi ourselves and paid 400 NPR (about 3 USD).
It leaves a bitter taste when he tried to overcharge his guests like this!
We would like to stress that the young lady at reception was the exact opposite: kind, and always trying to help - thank you, we appreciate it!

Sunny is the best host ever! He took personal interest in us and we had some nice conversations. The rest of the staff is also exceptionally nice! I liked the hostel so much that I came back for a second stay bring a couple of friends. Even booking one night in advance I could get two rooms and everyone was happy to see us again. The food and coffee were really good!
The hostel is a 20 minute walk from Thames which might seem like a lot but thanks to that it's much more quiet during the night.

We had a fantastic time at the Best Hostel. Sunny, santoshi and all the staff were so friendly, helpful and kind. The atmosphere is very welcoming and we spend many mornings and evenings sitting in the garden courtyard.
The facilities were very clean with a lovely hot shower.
We left our bags at the hostel while we did a trek and they were well looked after.
The hostel is nestled between houses and a school, which we loved because we witnessed the culture and happenings in the area.
It is. 30 minute walk to Thamel, on a very busy and dusty road, which was not ideal, however a taxi in was very cheap £2.50, so I was not a problem.

Sunny and the other employees were very friendly, polite people. The accommodation was exactly as in the photos. Small, beautiful business. There is no toilet paper and shampoo but there is a towel. A real price performance hostel. Breakfast was also fine.

Cozy and relaxed little place away from the hustle and bustle of city center, but 30 minute walk from Thamel. Sunny is super nice and helpful and makes you feel right at home. The restaurant is a good place to meet people.

The best thing about this hotel is the hospitality. Sunny is an amazing, warm hearted kind person and you can tell he treats the staff in the same demeanor. You feel safe and welcomed here with his first smile. First the price is the best in the vicinity ( save some $$). I loved this location (outside of the busy thamel areas and only a 70 cent grab ride pretty much anywhere.) I had a square loop of my favorite places all within walking distance (great coffee shops, yoga studio, lunch spot) I dont know how they can have such an amazing restaurant with prices so cheap. I dont get it, but i welcome it. Great location for people who do not require much other than the basic necessities and want to support local nepalese humans. Oh and I met some great people here, so its a mini vortex of like minded travelers and explorers. This is not a party spot.
The bathroom/shower setup was offputting. I was initially going to leave after day 1 but it wasnt as bad as i thought. You just need to time your shower/bathroom time right before you leave the room. The hospitality, location and price kept me there. The beds were small but I slept well each night.

Best hostel was my home away from home here in Kathmandu! I started my trip here ans every time I was back in Kathmandu I came back! Sunny and his staff were so kind with me and very helpful, I really recommend it !

I absolutely loved the hosts here. Everyone was so kind, genuinely caring, and excellent hosts. The food is amazing, the shower is the hottest shower you will ever take- which is amazing after many cold showers in Nepal! The hosts make you feel like family and the garden area is so comfortable to sit and have tea and meet people from all over the world! I was visiting my friend here and I was so impressed that I changed my schedule to stay a few days here with her and once on the way back from my other travels. it’s off the main road tucked out of the way which I loved. There is a school nearby and the kids will say hi and wave out the windows at you. it’s such a loving space.
Only one time did the school alarm go off early and I thought it was a fire alarm lol- but once I knew it wasn’t I just put in earplugs to not hear the morning bell and slept quite well.

Sunny and his staff are so kind and friendly, they do their best to make you feel at home. Sunny is always available and ready to assist you, even when the tour Operator didn't reply me, he kindly tried to help and solve the issue. Foods are delicious and you can order at any time. The location is in walking distance from Thamel area and however you are not in the busy and crowded Thamel, having a private room almost the same price than a bed in a shared room.
Dear Sunny, as we already talked, that guy Milan Adhikari and his travel agency are so irresponsible and made a very bad experience.

Staff is the most kind, helpful and nice people from the first moment you arrive. Food is great, they always have a smile, they create a home atmosphere, Sunny, the owner always had a nice campfire when i returned every day, and it was a great feeling to feel the hot from the fire meanwhile we were sharing nice conversations with other guests. I always walk to Thamel is only 20mn and easy to take a cab or bus in case you need it. Very peaceful and save area. Totally recommend. I travel alone and i felt like home. For sure my perfect place when i am in Kathmandu, very good prices for the quality of the rooms.

The staff is incredibly nice and does their best to give you a good time. The facilities are simple but clean. The food at the restaurants is really good and cheap. I also really liked the location of the hostel. It's outside of Thamel, so you get a little quietness and feeling of a save haven but at the same time you can reach everything by foot. Also the area is really save.

Had a brilliant stay here! The staff were incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly. Comfy bed, very tasty food and a good location if you want to be outside the bustle of Thamel. Great value for money. Will stay here again.
