Booking process and method for “deposit”. Cleanliness.

Beautiful house

The owner- unfortunately my beautiful stay at this property has now been foreshadowed by the scammer of an owner. Thursday prior to my check in I was sent a private message by the owner to transfer him $400 as the security deposit. after expressing my concern he stated he was “not a scammer” and that “this is his business”. I trusted his word and transferred the money. I had booked the accommodation for myself and my bridal party for the night before my wedding. I advised the owner weeks prior to check in that I had booked it for that reason and that there was also going to be a hair and makeup artist arriving on site at 5.30am. The owner acknowledged that this would be no problem. when booking the property in the policy it does state that the owner will be there at check out and check in for which a $400 deposit can be given in CASH and returned at CHECK OUT, this was completely fine and I had no issue with this. Upon reading other reviews about the owner keeping peoples security bond I was very weary when the owner was asking me to transfer it. The owner private texted me to let me know the money needed to be in his account by the end of the day. I complained and paid the $400 by the end of the day as he had advised booking.com that he was not able to be there for the check in and check out. Checking in was no problem, there was an issue with the lock box but with a phone call to the owner it was quickly resolved with a spare key he had out the front of the property. I have to admit the home itself is stunning but my god does it need a clean and some work. the carpet under the dining table was disgustingly dirty.

Not properly cleaned, host contacted us 2 days before our check in and demanded $400 cash on arrival as a deposit and refused to return it after falsely accusing us that we were more guest then we booked for and that we damaged a blind. So don’t pay him any deposit

A lovely, spacious house, big enough to cater for a big group of friends or family, with equally well-equipped kitchen and full larder. Rooms are clean, warm and comfy

sometimes, the response time from the housekeeper can be a bit tardy, especially when we need a fast answer.

The house was beautiful from the outside & inside. It was great to have 2 bathrooms (1 en-suite) & a separate toilet in the laundry.

The 4th bedroom did not have a door. Communication with the host in regards to the entry details & the bond could have been communicated in a more timely manner or included in the booking.com fees & details.

Location was perfect, accommodation was exceptional. Fridge was well stocked with milk, eggs & butter as well as a few other items which was greatly appreciated.

Location is good, the house is larger than I expected (as sometimes photos can be deceiving). There are ample kitchen supplies inc wine glasses, platters etc. The full size kitchen is very functional.

The biggest issue with this accommodation is the host. It has so much potential which is sad. I contacted the host 7+ weeks before my stay to inform of an error with the number of guests. The host waited until 3 days AFTER my stay to withhold money from the ‘security bond’ for the additional guests (my records say that it will be returned subject to an inspection of the property). I informed the host this is unfair and unreasonable, not to mention a breach of Australian Consumer Law and that he should have informed me of the extra charge at a time when I had the choice to accept the price increase or not (I believe this was purposeful as I informed them well before payment and lapse of my cancellation window) however he does not care and became quite short with me. I am taking my complaint further. No doubt he will try to discredit me in a response to this review and say that I was dishonest or deceitful etc, however please believe me when I say I was more than honest and up front. He asked me to contact booking.com about the number of guests two days before my stay (when I had informed him 7 weeks earlier and this was acknowledged), which I did, and then when I contacted booking.com about not receiving my bond back they informed me that the host never replied to their contact (multiple times) and they could not assist me further. You will see I’m not the first person this has happened to. This was by far the most expensive of the places we looked at and it ended up costing me another $150 extra, not good at all. In addition I note what others have said about dust, the mirrors in upstairs bedroom were very dusty. The lounge/cushions/rugs need a good clean as well as the dining chairs. There was out of date, opened milk in the fridge as well as a sealed (within date) one. I think there should be a photo of the fourth bedroom with the bunk and sofa bed, for transparency.
