We had a wonderful two weeks on Spruce Head. The house was beautiful- our favorite parts were the perfect kitchen and the large porch. Our children loved watching people get on the boats next door to go to and from the islands. Darrald was very easy to communicate with and helpful. Spruce Head is a great destination- a quiet and beautiful part of MidCoast. We have been coming to Spruce Head for a couple of years and we hope to come back to this house many times!

I stayed at Spruce Head for a week with 5 friends and we couldn't have been happier. The house was exactly as presented. It was clean, comfortable, and we made plenty use of the accompanying docks. The property is in the middle of what is a small lobster fishing village overflowing with New England charm. Would absolutely go back.

This is a lovely house and well appointed with TV and internet and all the amenities. Lots of bedrooms, lots of privacy, and a lovely porch looking out over a working harbor. Lovely, lovely, lovely

We had a wonderful week on Spruce Head Island, visiting with family, enjoying the view of the harbor, preparing some great seafood meals, and more time sitting on the porch! We found the house to be clean, comfortable and quiet....the activity around the marina was just interesting, not intrusive - and Skip. the harbormaster, is a national treasure, with stories of the operation of the marina.
We have been renting houses up and down the Maine coast for 6 years now, and this might just be our favorite so far. We hope to return!

This was our 5th time to stay at 32 Merchant's Landing, 3 times with the former owners and the 2nd time with the current. Each time I am even more impressed with the condition of the property, the cleanliness and the comfort.
We are always looking for a quiet place to spend our time away from the big city of Houston, TX and this certainly fills the bill. Not too far from restaurants, museums, and shopping, but not on the beaten path. We love it and therefore highly recommend it to anyone interested in experiencing life in Maine.
We were there at the absolute peak of the fall foliage season so the leaves were beautiful. The Maine coast has a plethora of great places to eat your fill of lobster or whatever you desire. In this house you can sit on the porch and watch the lobster and sail boats coming and going. Very relaxing.
We look forward to our 6th stay!

So wonderful to wake every morning with such a beautiful view ! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Merchants Landing . This was our first visit and we look forward to returning again soon . The cottage is so clean and comfortable, and has everything you could possibly need . It is also in a perfect location , near lots of restaurants , with many things to do in the area. We also enjoyed watching the activity on the dock. We especially enjoyed meeting and talking with Skip and learning a little bit about the lobster industry. He was so kind and hospitable and made our visit more special with his stories and with a ride on his lobster boat. Darrald , the owner was such a pleasure and also so helpful in making our stay special. What a wonderful place !

This is a really nice little cottage right on the water with great views from the porch, the hammock or the chairs by the rocks. The livingroom and kitchen have wonderful views as well as two of the upstairs bedrooms. There's a great grill and even a fire pit. Quiet even though by a working dock. Nice to see the people come and go in their boats but they are so quiet you could miss them if not watching. Really clean house and so well appointed. They have everything you could possibly need even a washer and dryer. Nice having the half bath for the upstairs bedrooms. This cottage has lots of natural light making it light and airy. We were concerned that it would be hot at night without air conditioning as we like it very cool to sleep but had no problem as there was a breeze from the water and temps in the high 50s at night. There are fans in all bedrooms in case it would be a little warm but not needed. While away from it all you are close enough to take advantage of all the Mid Maine activities. We even took a day trip to Acadia National Park which is a little over 2 1/4 hours away and very doable. Nice restaurants and lobster shacks nearby. Also extremely nice owner and the dock master Skip and his wife were very friendly and helpful. Just a very nice experience all around. Can't wait to return. This is how a vacation should be, no hassles and just a time to relax by the sea.

Having rented this house multiple times over the past 20 years - from the original owners - we were so happy to be able to revisit the spot our family will always lovingly refer to as "Sally's house". Sally & Don have retired & the house is now in the hands of new owners whom we found to be equally gracious.
When we come to this house its easy to pretend we LIVE here. My 20 year old was up at 4am a couple of mornings to hike to a nearby spot to watch the sunrise (and took some fantastic pictures). There is a great yard alongside the house which is perfect if you bring your own hammock or lawn games... like croquet or KanJam. There's a firespot for roasting hotdogs & marshmallows. It is GREAT to have a 2nd bath upstairs ... oh how we would have loved that when our kids were little! The beds are all comfortable and the house is nicely furnished. I always loved the convenience of the washer/dryer. You don't have to pack as much that way.
As for things to do in the area ... too many to count - we love the Owl's Head Light - in one direction - and the Marshall Island Light in another. Dorman's Dairy (Route 1 Rockland) is a must do - try the M&M ice cream! Our kids always loved getting souvenirs at the State Prison Store in Thomaston. Rockland, Rockport & Camden are all an easy drive. If you come in August check out the Union Fair - the ox pull is something we don't have at home! And "wild blueberry everything" is irresistible. Pick up some blueberries pancake mix & bacon to make your own yummy breakfast "at home" to eat right on the porch. On Saturday or Sunday walk (or drive) to the Lobster Lane Bookstore - more used books per square foot than we have ever seen anywhere. For a day at the beach - Birch Point State Park is minutes away.
Apparently I could go on and on... what can I say - our family LOVES the Spruce Head area and this house is our favorite. Check it out ... but not on the week that WE want to be there. :)

This tidy cottage on a working dock was an idyllic retreat. The cottage is charmingly laid out and neatly laid out like a ship, just as the lobsterman who built it planned. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the gentle hum of activity on the dock, as Skip (the master engineer and lobsterman manning the magical crane) swiftly settled in as the friend we all wanted to be like. My kids enjoyed exploring the plant and animal life on the island, including the tidal inlet, and jumping off the dock into the chilly waters. Just sitting on the porch, we were able to enjoy 4th of July fireworks from several nearby towns. Finally, Spruce Head Island was conveniently located close to Rockland for short shopping trips but far enough away that all our city-problems melted away. We look forward to returning -- we all want to catch up on Skip's wisdom, humor and news.
