We had the best time, the house was amazing with plenty of room for all of us to sleep comfortably. Having the lift to get down to the pier really made a difference in our stay! We loved swimming off the dock and taking out our boat daily!

We enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful and clean. I love the warm tile floors. The steps to the water are rough going up and down but we were not surprised because we read the reviews. The sunroom on the deck needs cleaning and maybe some new furniture. Overall I would suggest this vacation home to anyone who does not have mobility problems.

Beautiful house. Some maintenance issues. Many recessed lights out, especially outside where footing is tricky at bight. I asked manager about starting gas fireplace and she did not know how. Missing key to turn on gas but host did not seem concerned enough to have one delivered. Also the internet (satellite) was very spotty and the tvs, advertised as smart, only could stream a couple of aps. Renter needs to bring their own rocu and run on their own phone hotspot for streaming. Lovely property.

Great relaxing stay!! Beautiful home with all the amenities you could ask for. Great location to Trident Marina, and the Castle House is right across the lake. Kept our boat and two jet skis onsite at the boat house and we loved the area. Will definitely stay again!

We had a large family gathering for Father's Day. Just needed more space and this was the ticket. Beautiful home. Yes, there are steps to the dock. This is Smith lake- very few places do not have steps. All of our family made it down without problems- even my nimble 90 year old Mom! It was very clean and livable, and the ice maker was fantastic.
For those checking in- we got there after dark, so it was a bit unusual. The first door is not the main door- you go down a few steps to the third door. None of the bedrooms have windows, but that did not bother anyone in our group.
Thank you so much for offering this beautiful home for VRBO!

The house was very clean and a great location! The only complaint is the mattresses on the beds are very uncomfortable, but other than that everything was perfect! Would definitely recommend!

This house is amazing. Very unique layout. Giant open first floor with living room and dining room and a very impressive kitchen that includes a Wolfe gas stove and an ice machine 🤩. There’s a small bathroom with shower just off of the foyer. Also on the first floor is a suite that includes a den, full bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The tv in this den was the only one that we could get to work for us to stream a movie, but it kept buffering so even that was a no go.
Upstairs is another sitting area and a small office. The master suite is roomy with a firm king size bed and an en-suite bath to die for. Behind the master is a bedroom with 2 twin beds and another full bathroom with a soak tub.
The two story 2 slip dock is wonderful with tons of open room in the sun as well as a covered area for shade sitting. Small glass cooling room that has a window a/c that works great!
The only negative is the distance down the steep hill to the water—lots of steps. If you have any mobility issues this won’t work for you.

Nice place to stay. We would definitely return. We took a boat and two jets skis. Perfect boat house.

Overall it was a great property. The distance and number of stairs to the lake was not advertised. The stairs were dangerous with no handrails. If the lift had been working, it would not have been an issue. The lift needs to be repaired to have proper access to the lake. The ice machine was not working as well.

The house was very nice in some ways- there were nice stone and wood details and beautiful cabinetry, and a really nice spaciousness to the great room and dining room. The area of the lake was beautiful and peaceful, although the trees prevented a good lake view from the house. There were lots of unfortunate things that detracted from the visit in small ways, such as the ice maker being broken (and filthy inside), several light bulbs were out, two of the toilets weren't working properly (the owner was very responsive and came over herself and fixed this.) There was a beautiful outdoor fireplace but no furniture on the deck, and the steps were incredibly steep to get down to the lake (there were over 60 of them and they had varying heights.) Some of our party had to spend the whole weekend inside the house because they couldn't navigate the steep steps or sit on the furniture-less deck. There was a very nice two-story dock with a small air-conditioned room which was neat- but the room was full of dirty furniture and just kind of a turnoff. I really wanted to like the house and there were nice features about it, but it lacked attention to cleaning detail. For example, there was a pair of crumpled up socks and some other dusty items under the master bedroom nightstand, and the dish rack in the kitchen that held the dinner places we were to use, was full of dust. All in all, I felt that the house lacked the cleanliness and very nice touches that I have found in other properties I've rented at similar prices. It was just okay.

This is a beautiful home. The location on the water is perfect, right between two marina. Kids loved jumping from and swimming near the dock.

My wife and family have been vacationing on Smith Lake for years. This year, our standard VRBO was already rented out and our dates were locked, so we decided to try out “Respite by the Lake” as it was basically next door to our standard VRBO. I must admit, the pictures of the property are amazing, and along with the 2-story dock, we were sold. Pre-arrival communication with the owner was fine and typical of what I am used to with other VRBO rentals. Upon our arrival, I was quite surprised at the grandiose full wall of windows of the great room. Further exploring revealed very expensive taste of the person that decorated the home. After our initial inspection, we headed down to the dock. As mentioned in previous negative reviews, the steps to the dock were natural rock and not well lit after sundown. Upon arriving at the dock, we were shocked at the filth of the enclosed air conditioned room, as well as the mildew all over the decking. We grew up in the country, so we weren’t that put off. However, the stairs leading down to the lower level of the dock were rotten and dangerous. Filthy and full of spider webs I can deal with….the safety of my family is a no-fly zone. That first evening, we were excited to use the outdoor fire pit to make s’mores, but as previously mentioned in other reviews, there was no seating available and the deck was full of cobwebs, leaves, and ash from previous guests. We decided against that and decided to have a movie night instead. As mentioned in the amenities, the property has “Internet” and “TV”. What it does not mention is the lack of cable/satellite service. This would normally not be an issue as I stream all my entertainment normally, however, the internet was dreadfully slow. Streaming Netflix was not possible as the feed was constantly buffering. Additional negatives were multiple light bulbs burnt out, missing parts of the wall, open wiring knockouts, and a filthy (but expensive) cooktop. The ice maker was not working and full of trash. As we were driving away after our stay, I noticed the for sale sign in the front yard…I guess that should have clued me in. As my title mentions, if you want to stay in an expensive appearing home, but don’t care about the details, this home might be ok for you. I can assure you there are nicer rentals on Smith Lake within this price range…and I would recommend you pass on this property. PS- Pontoon rental for Dustin Point Marina was great!

We had a wonderful family week at the lake. The house is big and fit us well although very loud from the high ceilings in the den . The stairs to the lake are treacherous as described in other reviews. Except for the master bedroom, The beds and mattresses were pretty awful. The kitchen was nice and big but not well stocked. There wasn’t a big pot for pasta or a bowl large enough for a salad for 6 people. We had an issue with the gas at one point and Anna was wonderful and got the problem fixed right away. There is little to no outdoor seating. For the price I would have expected at least some seating on the deck. Bring chairs with you. Really minor things that we worked around. Good week over all

Internet did not work. This house was absolutely filthy! The steps are a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was a nightmare going down to the dock and worse getting back up. The screen porch was nasty. Dining Room chairs were broke. Grasshoppers in the house. Parking was terrible. Only room for 2 small cars. Trash in dresser, bathroom and kitchen drawers. Flood lights did not work. Had to grill with flashlight. Office desk was nasty. Had to clean before use. Master bed too high. Could not hardly get into it. Dock was nasty and steps were broken. This was the worse vacation I had to endure. I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Great week with teenage boys in tow
Great 5 day stay at a beautiful home on Smith Lake. This was our 4th stay in Respite By the Lake and we were well accommodated as always. Anna is uber responsive and goes out of her way to make us comfortable. We will definitely utilize her in the future.

Beautiful home
Beautiful home. The amenities did not meet my expectations. The towels are very worn and had an odor despite me rewashing them. And the sheets were pilled and very poor quality, same for the pillows. For the price, I appreciate raising the bar for those comforts. A good nights rest is important on vacation.
Otherwise the home is spacious and the dock is in a great location.

Beautiful home as described.
The property was beautiful and well-appointed, it was the perfect getaway for our family. The only downside was the beautiful stone steps to the lake would be hard for the elderly and very young. It wasn't a problem for our family, and we would stay here again!

Smith Lake - Crane Hill
Respite By The Lake is located close to Trident Marina and close to the main channel. The boat traffic does make the does make the water choppy around the pier. The house was great, but the tram was not working. Be prepared for lots of steps to and from the pier.

Weekend fun with friends!
This is the first time staying in this home but the second time in one of their properties and we have loved both stays! The views are amazing, the house was beautiful and we will definitely be back!!! The house is absolutely beautiful with so much room and the kitchen is AMAZING! We had power issues because of a storm that were beyond our control but the fire inside and out were perfect for our Adult weekend getaway!!! The owners are extremely nice, accommodating, and easy to get a hold of if we had any questions or problems! !

Beautiful Home but filthy!
This is a beautiful home but when we arrived it was not clean. I cleaned for 4 hours before my family got there. After calling my daughter in tears she came to help me clean. I contacted the owner and got no help or concern she kept assuring me it was clean even after I sent her pictures. I was so disappointed that the owner did not seemed concerned and that she argued with me over it being clean. I’ve never written a negative review on any property I’ve rented on VRBO. If it was possible I would post pictures. After I cleaned we had a great time. The renters coming in next need to send me their cleaning fee. It was much cleaner when I left than when I got there. Dead bugs in all of the window sills, crumbs and sticky all over the kitchen table and counters. Mold ring in all of the toilets, refrigerator had to be wiped down before we could put any food in it. The door handle at the entrance of the home was covered in cobwebs. The owner said the home had been cleaned 5 days before. My personal home was cleaned the day I left but when I returned 5 days later I did not have mold in my toilets, dead bugs in the window sills or on the floors, crumbs and sticky all over the counters and kitchen table. Also, be prepared if you are renting this home to climb major steps. We were fine with them but for small children and older adults it is very very difficult.
