De kamer was heel ruim en beschikte over een klein balkon. Het ontbijt werd geserveerd in een aangename ruimte (langs het water) en was uitgebreid. We hebben ervan genoten.
Vreemd dat we op voorhand moesten laten weten hoe laat we wilden ontbijten. Bleek bovendien achteraf niet nodig te zijn want we zijn een uur vroeger gaan ontbijten dan gezegd en niemand maakte daar een opmerking over.

The patio is quite nice beside the canal, watching the boats while you have a meal is quite nice. The historic properties of the structure were integrated quite well into a modern twist. The food was very good, the bar was reasonable, the staff were very friendly and helpful (I forgot my travel adapter and they had a spare one they let me use).
The gym was too small, and very limited equipment. The weather was good so I had the option of going for a run in the surrounding neighborhood (lots of cycling so I'm assuming its safe) but could not (time challenges)

Classic Van der Valk hotel, a bit dated but still nice and tidy with a comfortable bed.
Location is ok, food was fine. Next to a bus stop to Leiden (except when the bus is cancelled).
The main issue was that it wasn't very soundproof. We could hear people talking in other rooms via the ventilation, and the air conditioning itself was quite loud.
Also, our towels were changed even though we left them hanging up, which goes against the hotels environmental claims.
I should've complained at the reception, but I was in a bit of a rush to leave.

Close to where we needed to be, and ready to reach by car. Friendly staff, neat and clean room.
Heating/AC had issues, the room was too warm and the only way to regulate the temperature read to open the window.

The restaurant was top-notch. Breakfast was amazing. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was large, clean and comfortable!
Bathroom was a bit dated, but fully functional!
The restaurant staff was unexperienced, slow in service, they did not come to our table very often. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice and twice we had this service. The double bed had single sheets which my partner and I did not like.

All went extremely well. Receptionist on arrival not very helpful but next day young lady was superb advising us on bus travel and where to make for in city. Breakfast was excellent and dinner very good. Waiting staff very attentive and helpful.
Riverside location above expectations. All in all a big Thank You.
A little smile from 1st receptionist and a little more assistance. Small lift out of order for two days.

Dinner was good
The hotel is tired and definitely needs refurbishing. For the Money it is expensive ,I have stayed in many places a lot nicer and more up to date than this hotel. for less money.The shower was old and the cubicle very small and old. The glass doors were dirty, sorry I have a thing about windows and doors, especially doors ,it tells you a lot about a place. They were not cleaned both days and was very visible. This hotel is not central to Leiden and was advised not to walk to the city as it is alongg the motorway all the way. I do not write reviews but was very disappointed with this hotel for the money they charged.

Nice personel and views around.
Very comfortable bed.
Shower , bath and mirrors were dirty. No shower gel in the Suite which is standard. No smart TV at the room. Very old TV. Cheap plastic cups instead of glass. I think if it is a suite standard must be higher. Air condition did not work well. Restaurant has very low quality of the food and it is too expenisive. Breakfast also very poor. Would not come back again.

The location
The electric car charging station was not working, the room was on a noisy roundabout, the coffee machine was out of order - capsules not falling correctly in the machine, the coffee machine had not been cleaned (when I passed some clear water to wash it, it came out dark (coffee).
Whatsmore, I didn't get the reason for having 7 bottles of shampoo on the bathroom counter - this signified to me that little attention was given to room cleaning/clearing. My conclusion, it was not worth the money they asked.
I am used to far better from Van der Valk - particularly for this price.
Lastly, in the off chance Booking reads these comments, please double check the claim of electric vehicle charging station before simply accepting and listing it. A wall socket or indeed a single charging station (no room for more than 1 car) should have some sort of clear "warning" - I now count of being able to charge at the property, if this is in the description!

Beds were not made during out two night stay. if this was because of COVID then they should communicate this. Small shower. no USB outlets.
